Relay for Life Team Captain June 2007 – June 2015

Canadian Cancer Society – Ottawa, Ontario

Organized and managed a team of volunteers and motivated participation by planning and executing multiple high attendance (150+) fundraisers every year. Leveraged community networks to maximize reach while minimizing spending and introduced a top-down charity drive. Guest speaker at various Relay for Life events delivering the Canadian Cancer Society’s key messages of improving cancer survival rates, decreasing the incidence of cancer and improving the quality of life for cancer patients and their caretakers. Handled and overcame emergency situations including an extreme weather evacuation procedure.

Key Contributions:

• Spoke during the Luminary Ceremony of Relay for Life events at Canterbury High School, Brock University, and Relay for Life Nepean about the importance of raising awareness and fighting back against cancer.

• Raised over $114,000 through team fundraisers such as Car Washes, BBQ’s, Softball Tournaments and numerous Hootenanny events.

A major element of this role was organizing and managing the company golf tournament, Christmas party and a companywide running event with inStride Event Management promoting healthy lifestyles. Included in the job function was remerchandising Country Style and convenience locations to maximize store space and to increase customer satisfaction. Daily duties consisted of answering phones, processing of financial transactions, and providing administrative support to all departments as well as providing financial services in order to ensure accurate financial and administrative operations. Key Contributions:

• Planned, coordinated, and executed companywide events for a diverse group of attendees spanning from front line staff, transport truck operators, and office staff. This included the planning and execution of logistics and operations at the Annual Christmas Party, golf tournament, and a companywide running event.

• Remerchandised and organized displays for various Country Style and convenience store locations surrounding the Ottawa Region to highlight new, seasonal, and promotional items.

Relay for Life Assistant April 2012 – August 2012

Recruited to help manage the three Relay for Life events that took place in Ottawa. Duties included preparation for event days, event day set up and tear down, marketing, problem solving, customer service and distribution of health materials. Key Contributions:

• Promoted the event by implementing marketing campaigns with local radio stations and newspaper. Helped host Team Captains Meetings to boost team efforts encouraging all Relay participants to raise a minimum of $150.

• Assisted with event preparation by aiding with 4 bank nights prior to main event days. Collected and counted money brought in by Team Captains, while helping with setup and tear down on event day.

• Responsible for executing time sensitive post-event activities including preparing tax receipts for donations and updating computerized records for volunteer engagement department. RECENT VOLUNTEER INVOLVEMENT

Event Coordinator – Lei’d Back Luau January 2015 – July 2015 The Children’s Wish Foundation and Algonquin College – Ottawa, ON Developed and organized a Hawaiian-themed event on a zero-dollar budget in support of the Children’s Wish Foundation. Tasks included logistical planning, theme & décor organization, marketing & promotions, volunteer management, programming & entertainment coordination, revenue, sponsorship and post-event reporting. Successfully achieved all objectives as stated in our event plan by using industry tools such as the critical path, production schedules, volunteer management plans and risk management plans.

Key Contributions:

• Raised over $5,700 on a zero-dollar budget for the Ottawa Chapter of the Children’s Wish Foundation.

• Managed the creation, planning and execution of a themed fundraising event through Algonquin College’s Event Management Program with 125 guests in attendance.

• Handled and overcame challenges as a by-product of working on a zero-dollar budget, issues pertaining to food selection at the event, and disagreements and conflicts with teammates.

• Responsible for creating promotional material including posters for the Forty Under 40 Awards Gala and Ottawa’s Biggest Golf Tournament put on by the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce and the Ottawa Business Journal.
