Provided network architecture for a 250-node frame relay ground station network for Honeywell's Flight Information System (FIS) project. Design included the use of Cisco's IOS Firewall to provide a secure interface with the Honeywell corporate LAN.

Utilized Cisco Protocol Independent Multicasting (PIM) to provide efficient transmission of weather forecasts and NEXRAD radar data from a central "hub" facility to the ground station network. The use of multicasting allowed for the deployment of low bandwidth (64 kbps) circuits to ground station sites, cutting initial cost estimates by over 50%.

4/03-12/03: Scientific Research Corporation (Project Lead / Senior Network Engineer)

Client: SPAWAR Systems Center, Charleston Naval Weapons Station, SC

Network / Telepresence Project Lead for the $205 million Horizontal Fusion project. Successfully led a multi service project tasked with combining the information resources from 13 individual Department of Defense organizations into a single, network-centric program. Project established a multi site, collaborative network environment including real-time video for command and control of military operations. The year-long effort resulted in an additional contract award.

9/00-3/03: Integrated Information Technology Corp. (Consultant/Program Manager)

Client: Air Force Communications Agency (AFCA), Scott AFB, IL

Program Manager for the Enterprise Network Operations Support Cell (ENOSC) featured in Government Computer News magazine. Led a team of 8 engineers tasked with providing a consistent configuration management and security strategy for over 750,000 Air Force computer systems. Established a testbed facility for assessing software patches and provided a “tech support hotline” to model and address complex technical problems that could not be handled at the base level.

Established the capability to centrally distribute patches in near real time to classified computer systems attached to the Secret Internet Protocol Router Network (SIPRNET), a first for the Air Force.

Reduced the time required to test and distribute operating system patches to Air Force organizations from one month to 24 hours. Both the Air Force Computer Emergency Response Team (AFCERT) and the Air Force CIO’s office now rely on ENOSC test results to determine whether a given patch is deployed to Air Force organizations worldwide.

Established a rapid response and remediation capability to provide field units with assistance during crisis situations (e.g., recent wireless (802.11b) and Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) security issues).

Initiated program to centralize software deployment and security updates across the entire Air Force using Microsoft’s Systems Management Server (SMS). The program will allow the ENOSC to distribute software deployment packages to each major command for further distribution to individual computer systems.

Client: Defense Information Technology Contracting Organization (DITCO), Scott AFB, IL

Principal Engineer tasked with developing a network and systems performance management program. Utilized HP OpenView, BMC Patrol, and NetIQ Pegasus software to isolate problems and establish a network/systems performance baseline. Implemented architectural changes resulting in significant performance improvement for business-critical network applications.

Developed a PERL application utilizing SNMP to disable unused switch ports, satisfying a long-standing security requirement. The application monitors port usage over time and disables ports after a specified period of inactivity.

Utilized the open-source Multi Router Traffic Grapher (MRTG) monitoring application to monitor Internet connectivity utilization. Resulted in elimination of 9Mbps of excess Internet bandwidth, saving over $100,000 per year.

Utilized NetIQ Pegasus software to establish a web-based performance reporting capability. Customized performance reports allowed managers to proactively monitor the status of key systems and respond in the event of a problem. Pegasus also isolated a network performance problem limiting 50% of DITCO’s workstations to less than 1Mbps of throughput. Eliminating the problem increased throughput to 10Mbps, preventing unnecessary hardware replacement.

Completed a network infrastructure redesign project featuring Cisco layer three switches for enhanced performance and manageability and gigabit Ethernet links to wiring closets and servers. The design replaced the existing DITCO firewall and eliminated IP addressing problems by using private IP address space (RFC 1918) on the internal network.

8/99-9/00: Epic Partners, Inc. (Consultant/Director, Systems Development)

Client: Save-A-Lot Foods, Ltd., Corporate Headquarters, Earth City, MO

Designed and implemented an enterprise remote access solution. The configuration emphasized security, with RADIUS authentication and firewalls providing access to designated resources on the corporate network. Significantly improved the company’s ability to transmit critical sales and inventory data from over 1000 stores to the corporate headquarters near St. Louis. Also provided reliable, secure remote access for the company’s traveling sales force.

Designed and implemented a backup remote access system utilizing Lucent/Ascend remote access switches. Provided nationwide, toll-free access to the corporate network in the event the primary system is unavailable.

Performed source selection and implemented an Internet-based, enterprise fax system, reducing fax costs by 1/3.

Completed a network redesign project to address performance problems, implementation of dynamic routing protocols (EIGRP), IP addressing issues, and scalability for up to 1000 frame relay WAN circuits.

Project lead for implementation of an enterprise-wide remote access solution with over 1000 users across 8 countries.

Selected as chief architect and project lead for a $2M effort to update the Maritz Internet Services department. The project involved doubling the assigned engineering staff and completely redesigning the corporate Internet infrastructure. Maritz Internet Services now provides commercial, 24x7 engineering support for over 100 corporate Internet sites (clients include Toyota, AT&T, General Motors, Microsoft, and Compaq).

10/96-7/97: Energizer Battery Company (Staff Analyst - Manager Network Services)

Promoted from Staff Analyst to Manager, Network Services after four months with the company. Supervised a staff of seven Staff Analysts at corporate locations in three states.
