May 2012

Started my own business and became self employed.

I opened a Fishing Tackle & Pet Food shop, dealing directly with the public & am in the process of setting up our own web site. I started the business from scratch & have sourced products from most of the major suppliers in this industry.

March 2012

Returned to the UK due to Visa restrictions in the U.A.E.

March 2009 – December 2011 (Company Closed Down in Middle East)

Palfinger Systems Middle East Equipment LLC, Dubai

Position: Regional Manager.

Palfinger is a multinational company group with its headquarters in Salzburg, Austria; they have production and assembly sites in Europe, in North and South America as well as in Asia. They design and manufacture hydraulically operated marine cranes for all types of marine applications. They are also representatives for Ned Deck safety equipment which also fell under my responsibility.

As Regional Manager I was the sole representative for the company in the Middle East and my main duties included:

Providing technical presentations to new and existing clients on the products of the company.

Responsible for all quotations which included the calculations and design of all equipment need to clients requirements.

Arranged all the import documentation and supervised delivery.

Organised and supervised the repairs, services and commissioning of equipment.

November 2007 – February 2009

Hydrolink FZE South, Dubai

Position: BDM Hydraulics & Purchasing Manager

Hydrolink a leading fluid engineering company with their Head Office in Jebel Ali and have branches throughout the Middle East. They offer all aspects of Hydraulics; Filtration; Pumps and Control Engineering and a comprehensive service to end users and manufacturers

Oversee the operations of the Purchasing team.

Sourced new contacts and negotiated better terms for hydraulic equipment to be purchased.

Responsible for the sales representatives on the hydraulic products side and provided technical support for new and existing clients.

Have experience with and worked on an in-house ERP systems.

Sept. 2002 – October 2007.

Hystar Hydraulics Ltd. England – (Company put up for sale as Owner Retiring)

Position: Business Manager

Hystar England was a distributor for Hystar Taiwan and their products included all types of hydraulic equipment which included valves, pumps, motors, cylinder etc.

Asked by Owner to run Company as he wanted to semi retire.

In charge of all business operations, from importing hydraulic equipment from Taiwan to setting up computer system for the Company.

After a visit to the PTC exhibition in Shanghai, China, I have contacts for the purchase of Rexroth & Vickers equivalent hydraulic pumps & valves and did all purchasing for the same.

Designed hydraulic power packs to customer specifications.

March 1999 – Aug. 2002.

Ernest Lowe, Vanderbijlpark, South Africa.

Position: Branch Manager

Ernest Lowe (a Division of Hudaco Industries Limited), is one of the leading hydraulic and pneumatic engineering companies in the Republic of South Africa. They design and manufacture a range of hydraulic cylinders known as the ELCO 180V SERIES. A large part of their production is engaged in the manufacture of cylinders to customer’s individual requirements and specifications. They where the sole distributors in Southern Africa for Norgren/Martonair, Yuken, Eaton, Linde, Kinertrol, Kracht, UCC, Casappa amongst other products.

Re-employed as Branch Manager after being head hunted by company to re-establish the branch.

Became the third branch in the company to achieve R3,000,000 in a month.

Responsible for budgeting, purchasing and all administration work involved in the general running of the branch.

Supervised and trained staff as required.

Oversaw the workshop for the design and commissioning of hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, including the production of cylinders to the client’s specifications.

October 1994 - Feb. 1999.

Albroco Ltd. England.

Position: National Sales Manager

Albroco cover O.E.M.’s and distributors in the U.K. and Ireland for the sale of White hydraulic motors and Hobbs electronic equipment. Customers included JCB and Nifty Lift.

Responsible for all enquiries, quotations, technical information.

Setting up of distributors throughout the UK and Southern Ireland.

Sept 1982 – August 1994 Branch Manager

Ernest Lowe Hydrotube, Vanderbijlpark, South Africa.

They design and manufacture a range of hydraulic cylinders known as the ELCO 180V SERIES. A large part of their production is engaged in the manufacture of cylinders to customer’s individual requirements and specifications. They where the sole distributors in Southern Africa for Norgren/Martonair, Yuken, Eaton, Linde, UCC, Casappa amongst other products.

Responsible for growing the branch from 4 employees with monthly sales of R50,000 to 15 employees and R450,000 monthly sales

Oversaw the workshop for the design and commissioning of hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, including the production of cylinders to the client’s specifications.

Other duties included purchasing supervision, budgeting and all administration work involved in the general running of staff and branch.

Merger of Ernest Lowe and Power Systems International took place during November 1989. I was Senior Technical Engineer/Branch Manager for Power Systems International at that time and when the merger took place I was kept on as Branch Manager of merged companies.

Power Systems designed and manufactured a range of hydraulic equipment to client’s specifications. Also covered Fenner products such as Vee belts, Pulleys, Chain & Sprockets, Couplings, Etc.

Aug. 1977 - Aug. 1982

South African Iron & Steel Works, Vanderbijlpark.

Position: Maintenance Engineer

They are largest steel manufacturing company in Africa for all types for industry, car building etc.

Started as Maintenance Engineer and after 9 months I did an electrical conversion course to become an Electrical Engineer.

Responsible for engineering duties on the Hot Steel Rolling Mill.

Instructed and supervised project section at training school.

Consulted with other engineers on the selection and purchase of machines for the manufacture of PC boards for the entire group.

Sept. 1974 - Aug. 1977

Globe Engineering & Dorman Long Swan Hunter, Cape Town Docks.

Position: Marine Engineer

Supervised the repair of various marine equipment from trawlers to 500,000 ton tankers.

1 of 4 engineers who managed and manufactured the building of two 250 Ton floating cranes.

Nov. 1970 - Aug.1974

British Nuclear Fuels Ltd., Capenhurst, England.

Position: Maintenance Engineer

Worked as a maintenance engineer.

Promoted to Machine Shop Inspector for last 18 months of employment.

Sept. 1965 - Nov. 1970

Position: Apprenticeship

Served as Hydraulic Fitter working on manufacturing, repairing and servicing of hydraulic & pneumatic presses and pumps.

Last two years of apprenticeship spent travelling around the UK installing, repairing and commissioning of presses and pumps.
