BOARS HEAD– Major manufacturer of food products from the best delicatessens, gourmet stores and fine food establishments in the New York City area to all over the country from New England to Key West, and all across the nation, from Seattle to San Diego, to thousands of Mom and Pop stores, and in the most prestigious supermarkets in America.

June 2015– Current Safety Manager, Forrest City, AR

Manager directly leading one Coordinator, one Nurse, and two EMTs in establishing OSHA compliance for the fourteen elements of PSM (Process Safety Management) through training, auditing, and the engagement of 500+ facility staff members.

Improve and manage Hazardous Communication within the established separate departments and their responsibilities: Sanitation, Raw Side, Thermal Processing (Cooking-Blasting-Chilling), RTE (Ready to Eat) Side, and Distribution (Pack-Out, Packaging, Boxing and Shipping).

Revamp and appropriately train operation personnel on Authorized and Affected Lock Out-Tag Out procedures; furthermore, establish and conduct other safety and health training in compliance per OSHA Arkansas in accordance to operations within the Industrial Foods SOP (Standard Operational Procedures).

Restore Safety Steering and Ergonomic Teams; audits and inspections conducted to quickly remove safety hazards and rectify out of compliance issue standards; Also, ergonomic analysis evaluations performed to guide maintenance in improvements of operations to prohibit potential operational injuries.

Conduct noise evaluations with dosimeter and employee monitor bands; high levels of noise accessed for exposure throughout operations. Noise protection adjustment positioned; furthermore, other PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) modified from area evaluations to protect both the employees’ health and the quality assurance of foods being manufactured. Eliminated contaminations which prohibited products by utilizing and updating SSOPs (Sanitation Standard Operation Procedures) for safe cleaning and pre-ops on equipment in work areas. PPE accessed with adjustments mandated when necessary toward Quality Assurance.

Lead HAZ Team in quick responses to Anhydrous Ammonia leaks within refrigeration. Annual and periodic Emergency trial responses conducted. Emergency drills under the One Plan for fire, weather, and other emergency situations conducted to meet the quick-safe responses and identify to rectify problems when applicable.

Conduct self safety inspection audits; issues communicated for management staff to promptly rectify and improve safe working environments.

Managed Hazardous Communication. Built a strong foundation with two updated Master copies of MSDS for chemicals used throughout the facility. Electronic versions were positioned in the public shared drive along with copies positioned throughout each department within the facility. Chemical placards were updated to standards.

Developed OSHA compliance training: Hazard Communication, Incident Reporting, Accident Prevention and Signs, Personal Protective Equipment, Air Pressure Safety, Respiratory Protection (voluntary), Barricade Safety, Forklift Safety Awareness, Slip/Trip/Falls, Bloodborne Pathogens, Emergency Evacuation & Fire Prevention, Affected Employee Lockout/Tagout, Dock Safety, Pallet Rack Safety, Platform Aerial Lift Safety, and more. September 2013 – February 2014 Environmental Health & Safety Manager, Jackson, MS

Manager overseeing EHS responsibilities for the largest company rendering facility

Responsible for the leadership of EHS Teams consisting of each facility’s departments and shift (plant, fleet-transportation, and maintenance operations). Delegated safety throughout operations in accordance with OSHA.

Organized JHAs (Job Hazard Analysis) for all facility jobs in combination with Moving Equipment, Lock-Out Tag-Out, and other appropriate safety procedures.

Ensured environmental compliance throughout operation under permits and plans: Title V, Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure, Storm Water Pollution Prevention plan, and others.

INTERNATIONAL PAPER/WEST FRASER (2000 to 2013) – The world’s largest Paper and Forest Products Company, with over 26 billion dollars in annual sales and 80,000 employees worldwide. Largest Lumber Division producer in North America from International Paper, Fortune 70 Company, was purchased by West Fraser of Canada in 2007. The US division of the Canadian Parent company employs 2600 employees with $1.6 billion, 15 lumber facilities.

EHS Manager/HR Generalist/Accounting Specialist, Germantown, TN Corporate Office

Reported to the Financial Manager and Corporate Management Lead team of US Operations. Responsible in efforts to reduce and manage cost in benefits along with EHS/HR/Financial responsibilities obligations.

Oversaw safety operations at a corporate level to maintain insurer compliance to limit and exclude fire explosions through dust combustions throughout US operations. Relations and costs were improved to timely reports and engineering controls.

During sale transition between IP and Westfraser Corporate, managed 12 workers compensation claim cases acquired by TPA(s) (Matrix, Sedgwick, and Broadspire) under the AMA (American Medical Associates) guidelines until MMI (Maximum Medical Improvement) and RTW (Return to work).

Reorganized Workers Compensation program for 260 employees at the Whitehouse, FL and Folkston, GA facilities. Cut runaway annual costs at Whitehouse from $315,000 in 2003 to $10,000 in 2005. Lowered TIR from 3.27 in 2003 to 0 in 2004. Eliminated annual cost at Folkston from $115, 000 in 2003 to $8,000 in 2005. Achieved a Zero Injury Rate at these two IP facilities in 2004. Both operations moved into the top 10% of 235 facilities for lowest number of recordable injuries in International Paper global operations. Managed the Folkston facility to qualify VPP Star status with OSHA in 2004.

Revamped a weak safety program of 110 employees at the Georgetown, SC facility to cut annual Workers Compensation costs from a whopping $458,000 in 1999 to $4,000 in three years. TIR reduced from 3.69 to 0.53 during same period. Led facility to go 11.5 months without recordable injury. Developed and managed safety procedures and audits to monitor and enhance ergonomic operations to improve goals in both safety and production operations. Achieved a level of #48 of 235 IP global facilities in safety 2003.

Winner of the Team Safety Entrepreneur Award and Safety Leadership Award at International Paper’s 2001 Safety Conference. First time one facility won both awards.

Among the 3 facilities, developed and implemented annual training and OSHA compliance. Led EHS teams consisting of each facility’s departments and shifts (sawmill, planer mill, maintenance, kilns, shipping). Organized BJAs (Behavior Job Analysis) for all facility jobs in combination with Moving Equipment, Lock-Out Tag-Out, and other appropriate safety procedures. Developed and managed safety procedures and audits to monitor and enhance ergonomic operations to improve goals in both safety and production operations.

Assisted HR towards a positive cooperative labor management relationship. Reduced the number of grievances and peer reviews at all locations. When applicable, participated in peer reviews and grievances.

Consistently managed all EPA and State environmental permits and plans per compliance requirements (Title V, NPDES, SWPPP, SPCC) for all 3facilities improving operations through capital projects of installations of new equipment and procedure modifications. Managed reporting frequency requirements timely. Zero (0) notice of violations (NOVs).

Assisted Management, Engineering, and staff during Capital projects in compliance with Environmental and Safety compliance.

Corresponded with state Workforce Commissions in the determination of fraudulent unemployment (SUI) claims. Discovered $66,740 over-charged unemployment benefit charges in Louisiana in 2011. Employer’s accounted reaccredited. Future claims immediately denied prior to issuing benefits. Continue cost limits throughout communications and decisions in appeals and tribunals.

Managed business insurances through Aon-Hewitt during third party operational activities

Developed a well organized Fidelity administration fee for termed employees saving $25,000 per year.

Developed and managed returns of unvested Fidelity pension and saving plan company match forfeitures. $95,596.53 returned back to the employer.

Assisted accountants with monthly state tax, specifically in South Carolina.

Conducted labor / audits/management relationship to reduce the number of outstanding grievances under the current labor agreement at each location

Managed and reorganized the employee handbooks at 10 separate non-union facilities into one equivalent single employee manual

Led successful sale transition of benefits structure between 14 IP legacy facilities and 2 US West Fraser South locations entirely to West Fraser. Organized new benefit formation with several TPA(s) and carriers (United Health Care, Fiserv/UMR, Reliance, Fidelity, Magellan, Hewitt, ADP). Consolidated 401K assets from previous carriers, Vanguard and J.P. Morgan, to Fidelity. Benefits continue strong foundation in changes under the present Health Care Reform Act. Corrected several benefit errors under previous historical employment and TPA administrations under previous employers, IP and West Fraser, South. Ensure administration process is being followed in accordance with Fiduciary responsibilities.

Piloted the revision and consolidation for Summary Plan Documents and other plan credentials for all Health and Welfare Benefits and Retirement Savings and Pension Plans. Health & Welfare SPDs were organized under one plan under ERISA to reduce cost associated with annual 5500 filings and updates/distribution to employees.

Managed employee dependent audits with ADP for all West Fraser Inc. facilities, including the corporate office in Germantown, TN. Discovered, during the initial trial audit of 3 facilities, several employees with ineligible dependents (54 employees with a total of 64 ineligible dependents) contributed unqualified medical expenses. Ineligible dependents were dropped from benefit coverage and employees were potentially held liable to reimburse ineligible expenses to UHC and Fiserv, while the carrier reimbursed the West Fraser, Inc. Audits remain in practice within US West Fraser, Inc. business.
