Better World Books is an on-line for-profit bookseller of over 8M used and new books located in over 600K sq.ft. of warehouse space. The theme was to get back to the basics. As a Sr. Operations Manager I was responsible for creating a Lean Culture that is sustainable. Achieved a 90% improvement by locating 40K lost books valued at over $100K in the first 30 days. Inventory accuracy increased to 99.96% and is maintained daily by cycle count auditing. Kaizen event allowed the redesign and installation of 30 Scanning Stations doubling its capacity. Taught 20 leaders utilizing the new release of, “Creating a Lean Culture” by David Mann, 3rd edition. The cultural Lean improvements are sustainable.

Adkev has earned record profits for two years, decreased customer complaints 50%, and increased efficiencies through the elimination of waste, standardized work, and the Lean Culture implementations.

DuPont-Pioneer AG, formerly Pioneer Hi-Bred is the largest U.S. producer of hybrid seeds for Agriculture. Productivity improvements increased 110 units/hr. valued at $33K/hr. in product availability. Shipped 278,000 units or $55M in product to the customer faster than the competition which moved Pioneer Constantine from number 7 to 1 within the Pioneer plants and contributed to Pioneer AG gaining 3.4% more market share. Constantine plant also completed Returns and Sampling processes faster than any other Pioneer plant because of the Lean cultural changes.

Managed a three-shift operation of 60 employees in the Post Cast department. Responsible for capital and departmental expense budgets. Reported to General Manager/Engineering Manager.

Assigned to the bottleneck as Area Manager over: Knockout, Cutoff, Water Jet, Blast, CNC Machining, Etch, and Low Temp. Saved $240K on Caustic usage project, team decreased cost by 75% in Low Temp, and achieved 30% productivity improvement on Water Jet set-up.

As a Lean Coordinator achieved an overall 20% operational improvement. Developed employee’s problem solving skills to gain $300,000 in productivity improvements utilizing Alcoa Business Systems and TPS / Lean Manufacturing training. Created a Lean Culture at Howmet.

Chicago Faucets Company/Geberit, Michigan City, IN

Manufacturing Manager

Utilized extensive manufacturing experience to manage plant operations of plumbing and faucet products.

P&L and capital budget responsibilities. Reported to VP/General Manager.

Designed 20 automated assembly lines and a unique Plastic Hot Plate Welding machine for all Faucets products. Decreased labor cost by $165K annually and increased capacity 4,000 sq. ft.

Created lights out operation for Injection Molding decreasing 3 shifts to 1, saving $100K annually.

Executive in charge of an $11 million project. Built an 88,000 sq. ft. building then consolidated facilities from Chicago to Michigan City. Purchased and installed a new Chrome Plating Line in Milwaukee plant and outsourced 311 products to overseas locations for a $4 million annual savings. Hired 86 new non-union employees and initiated the shut-down of two union operations.
