Entrepreneurial leader with 25 years of experience developing and building new information technology businesses, markets and products.
Most recently as CEO for SnapOne, a mobile and IoT SaaS platform developer that exited, and was founded as spinout from a venture-growth company restructuring and turnaround I led.
Began career in sales, found and sold a specialty software distributor, expanding into business development, international market launches and strategic partnering, then broader operating, advisory and board roles. Primarily growth-stage companies marketing software, cloud services, mobile technology and digital content to enterprises, mobile telecoms, consumers and intermediaries.
Key Operating Experience: Strategic and global business development, financing and M&A, multinational sales and operations, offshore R&D, improving operating teams and turnarounds.
EXPERIENCE
SnapOne, Inc., Princeton, NJ 2009 – 2015 Mobile and cloud security applications, and “Life Security” mobile and IoT SaaS platform developer for B2C /B channels to create family and SMB security monitoring solutions (114-person peak). Founded from Exclaim’s restructuring Q3 ‘09. Asset sale exit to Synchronoss, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNCR) Q3 ‘15.

Reporting to 7-member board, with 4-direct reports and 12-person management team.
Continuing Exclaim’s turnaround after stabilizing B/S and cash, through spin out of key assets into a tax efficient “SnapOne newco” for strategic flexibility, while rebuilding the organization, leadership and processes to enter growth-mode for its direct-to-consumer (D2C) applications.
Built top-tier team, advisors and board with primarily operations in Princeton, NJ and Bangalore, IN, and closed 5 IP and talent-driven business acquisitions to expand product portfolio and R&D team.
Delivered $100.9M in aggregate D2C subscription sales, $70.9M revenue and $2.6M EBITDA up to exit, organically financing growth and leveraging global carrier billing platforms for “Snap” branded family, data and device security applications.
Grew from $2.9M sales, $2.0 revenue and $0.4M EBITDA (FY ’09) to $34.4M sales, $24.1M revenue and $0.6M EBITDA by (FY ’12) peak. De-emphasized further top-line growth when D2C model became unprofitable, with shareholders opting to build a B2C /B offering and not exit or raise equity.
Launched the “Life Security” platform R&D effort Q2 ‘12 for telecom, IoT and retail POS activation channels as new business model. Financed strategic shift from D2C subscription cash flows, OPEX reductions and debt. Delivered platform Q3 ‘14 with 17 patent filings, and early deals at Beeline RU, Assurant, AT&T & Verizon retail, TigerDirect and Staples. Exit process started Q4 ’14.

Exclaim Inc. (formerly dotPhoto), Princeton, NJ 2005 – 2009
Photo merchandising and cloud storage platform under dotPhoto and white-label brands; and mobile applications under Pictavision, MyApps, Kodak, Teleprints and Verizon brands backed by Edison and Sycamore Ventures (65-person at peak). Turned around mobile unit, and then restructured company.
CEO and President (Board Chair)
Led mgmt team committed to finding solution for insolvent business with impaired B/S and declining revenues. Reduced headcount, and raised cash from NJ State EDA and asset sale for add’l liquidity. Launched Pictavision market-test with AT&T, a consumer cloud /photo application, which proved scalable and a catalyst to clean up B/S and stabilize the business without further capital.
COO & CFO
Added web unit, finance, legal and bank debt workout roles. Reduced OPEX, and material operating risks by resolving a key-customer platform license dispute, and separate IP infringement litigation as defendant. Negotiated sr. lender and strategic creditor workouts, and shareholder communications.
VP, Mobile Unit
Consultant then VP ’06, after repairing product quality and Verizon relationship for smallest but most promising unit. Delivered mobile strategy, securing add’l equity for co. Hired new team, brought core R&D in-house and overhauled products, while expanding carrier channels in the Americas. EBITDA positive in 12-months, 3x sales to $4.3M FY ‘97, delivering 90%+ of co. GP with < 25% resources.
MAP Consulting, Philadelphia, PA 2001 – 2005
Mobile-focused business development, product strategy, turnaround, sales and marketing for enterprise, telecom and consumer software and hardware products. 9 ST and LT engagements including: Cingular (AT&T), JP Mobile (Motorola), Compro Technologies, Teltier (Cisco) and Sun Microsystems (Oracle).
Broadbeam Corporation, Princeton, NJ 1999 – 2001 Enterprise mobile platform and SaaS for field service, transportation and logistics and industrial applications backed by $44M in capital (85-person). Merged with MobileAware.
VP, Strategic Accounts- Led new group to develop key channels /partners, as US sales flat-lined.
Dir /then VP, Int’l Markets- Launched P/L unit, increasing int’l sales and enterprise accts. Hired UK /JP teams, revamped EMEA channels and closed equity raise /distribution deal with Itochu Japan.
Infonautics Corporation, Wayne, PA 1996 – 1999
(NASDAQ: INFO) E-Library, the #1 digital reference service for K-12, libraries & consumers (200-person). Merged with Tucows (NASDAQ: TCOW), and education unit spun out to Proquest (NYSE: PQE).
Dir, International Markets- Launched P/L unit signing country partners to invest, supply content and distribute localized versions with deals in APAC and Americas. Offered divisional VP role.
Mgr /then Dir, Business Development- Developed 3 new businesses with launch customers (Int’l, SMB, co-brand), leveraging our platform and search technology, and major publisher relationships.
Elektroson B.V., Eindhoven, NL / Inc. Philadelphia, PA 1992 – 1996
CD optical mastering, studio and data storage application developer, backed by KPN Telecom Ventures (35-person). Exited my company to Elektroson, which sold to private investors after my departure.
GM, US Ops- Built team and operations, scaling revenues thru US distributors & Japanese OEMs.
Exclusive US Distributor- Developed new enterprise /SMB data storage market for struggling venture-co. Led Elektroson to acquire my business and exit other markets, initiating a turnaround.
