Senior Metallurgical Engineer

Highly versatile professional in the field of Metallurgical Engineering, prove ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, deliver superior performance. Skilled at conducting lab experiments. Licensed professional engineer. Canadian citizen and eligible for TN visa. Core competencies include: Physical Metallurgy • Metallography • Failure Analysis • Microscopy (SEM and optical) • Welding Inspection PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Metallurgist 2014

Acuren Group Inc., Mississauga, Ontario, Canada

Performed welding inspection mainly for clients from oil and gas industry, ensured compliance with CSA standard, prepared weld joints, performed hardness test and macro examination, resulting in detailed reports leading to either acceptance or rejection of the welds.

Conducted metallurgical failure analysis for manufactured industrial equipment (heat treated steel parts, bearings, welds, etc.) prepared metallography samples, performed hardness and microscopy, determined and reported the cause of failure to prevent future occurrence and improve the quality of products.

Carried out materials testing including corrosion test, grain direction, grain size and ferrite counting for steel plates and weld joints according to customer specifications, resulting in detailed reports to meet projects goals in a timely manner.

Prepared metallography samples for failure analysis, worked with aqueous solutions according to their MSDS sheet.

Prepared weld joints for ferrite counting by polishing followed with electro etching according to ASTM standards.

Consistently worked to improve the quality of metallography lab, performed maintenance of metallographic preparation equipment.

Post-Doctoral Fellow 2011 – 2013

McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada

Worked on a project from a manufacturer of oil pumps and powder metal components, studied high temperature oxidation of solid oxide fuel cell interconnects, designed and implemented a TGA apparatus to monitor the weight gain of Cr/Fe SOFC interconnects during high temperature oxidation resulting in a new oxidation process which enhanced the quality of final products.

Performed metallography, optical microscopy and SEM for oxidized interconnects resulting in detailed technical reports.

Fabricated electrochemical galvanic cells to study the thermodynamic properties of Na-Si binary system by electro motive force (EMF) method resulting in construction of a Na-Si binary phase diagram.

Supervised undergraduate and graduate students ensuring all safety protocols. Research Assistant 2006 – 2011

McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada

Completed a Ph.D. study on high temperature battery (Na/NiCl2). Amin Mali, P.Eng.

Designed and fabricated a thin ceramic electrolyte resulting in lower specific resistance by a factor of 1.6.

Designed and fabricated a high temperature ceramic seal leading to higher stability and longer battery life.

Performed maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of high temperature furnaces and other lab equipment, ordered and replaced elements and refractories resulting in enhanced research work.

Synthesized and fabricated ceramic electrolytes, characterized them by SEM, DTA/TG, XRD, Particle Size Analyzer and ICP-OES.

Welding Engineer 2004 – 2006

Modern Industry Technique Co., Tehran, Iran

Maintained thorough understanding and working knowledge of ASME Section IX and other welding Codes, reviewed all Code revisions and incorporated changes to operating procedures necessary to maintain compliance, assured that all production fabrication welding and heat treating conforms to required Code standards and specifications.

Reviewed, authored, and modified documents in the area of joining to ensure that appropriate documents adequately support the project.

Developed and delivered three workshops for employees, topics included Corrosion, Non Destructive Testing, Materials Selection; consistently received above average to excellent evaluations from the workshop participants.
