A small business that designs and manufactures electronic controls for general aviation.

Director of Operations

Oversee activities throughout the supplier to customer value stream related to quality, delivery, flexibility and cost. Manage the schedule, analyze data related to quality, delivery and costs, work closely with sales and engineering on new product launches and customer performance reviews, coordinate expedites, and answer operational or compliance questions. Collaborate with engineering on new product launches, develop the strategic plan for optimizing business performance including developing a sourcing strategy, aligning the supply chain with organizational goals, evaluating supplier options including final selection, performing product qualification, and prioritizing improvement projects.

Other duties including managing three direct reports and sixteen indirect and maintaining compliance to import, export, FAA and other regulatory requirements.

Significant Accomplishments:

Established meaningful performance measurements around a quality, delivery and cost framework that trends over time such things as process efficiency, material utilization, field performance and supplier performance.

Defined baseline production capacity.

Changed to a "regional" supply chain model to improve flexibility, responsiveness and improve enterprise capabilities by building long term relationships with willing partners.

Set up a pull system for high volume standard build assemblies from suppliers through WIP that reduced shortages and synchronizes deliveries with the customer shipments and production requirements.

LSI Corporation is a leading provider of silicon solutions, software and data storage systems.

Manager of Manufacturing Quality Engineering:

Stabilized out of control production yields by extending short term containment controls while analyzing data to drive permanent corrective actions. The quality team was realigned along product families, product and process performance goals were incorporated into individual performance plans which improved responsiveness to problem reports, short term containment actions and follow through on permanent corrective action plans.

Lead regular supplier to customer interlock meetings to monitor performance and progress on improvement projects and actions.

Twelve direct reports reported to this position.

Responsibilities included:

Frequent source of data analysis for OEM account teams and upper management.

Leading continuous improvement efforts and customer qualifications.

Led numerous continuous improvement projects that implemented electronic Poka-Yoke controls and other shop floor controls in high risk areas

Using Cpks at different stages of integration I lead a multi-site "tiger team" that successfully correlated observed bi- modal failures to the distribution changes. Containment actions were implemented immediately; corrective actions were implemented within two weeks of determining the point of origin and root cause of the observed failures.

Worked directly with OEM teams (IBM, Sun Micro, HP etc.) on numerous product qualifications.

Manager of Process Management and Consulting

This position was a combination of a process engineering role and a manager overseeing compliance related matters. Driving improvement in contract manufacturing facilities, driving internal continuous improvement projects within the division, leading improvements on behalf of customers including reporting status back to customer account teams regularly.

Two direct reports, one dotted line and a part time audit team reported to this position. Compliance to industry standards and governmental requirements such as ISO, CCC, UL, KDHE, ESD (S20.20) RoHS, WEEE and others were among the duties required in this role.

Significant Accomplishments:

Researched multiple solutions, created specifications and business case for the selection and implementation of an enterprise PLM application. Team lead for the implementation of the product service and improvement module. Completed the implementation on time. Deliverables included:

Key activities included establishing key performance measurements for all production sites (U.S., Ireland, Mexico), implementing identical shop floor controls and performance measurements at all production facilities, leading continuous improvement projects for all operations locations and coordinating plans with dotted line reports from Cork and Guadalajara. One indirect report. Leading weekly “walk throughs” with the executive staff.

Significant Accomplishments

Implemented a JIT defect free CD ROM mastering and production process using a DMAIC approach. The project reduced scrap $250,000.00 in the first year. Patent #200********

Lead and participated in multiple green belt projects that reduced recurring failure modes and customer returns.

Implemented a throughput accounting based operations performance dashboard.
