DIVISION GENERAL MANAGER (1998 – 2000) Southern New England

Revenue base of $56 million, 4 trucking locations, 3 transfer operations, 1 MRF, 105 routes.

Profit and loss accountability for this large division. Duties included motivating, advising, coaching site and functional managers regarding cost reductions, routing improvements, sales strategies, permitting and safety issues, service issues. Preparing capital and financial budgets with controller. Visiting key customers to ensure customer satisfaction, and resolving daily issues.

Accomplishments:

Successfully consolidated two operations into one following a major merger. Achieved cost savings of $1 million plus. Reduced routes through improvements in productivity. Consolidated office, maintenance and sales functions. Increased collection revenues by 9.8% through pricing, net new business initiatives, and the construction of the first dry waste processing facility in New England, giving us significant competitive edge. Increased profit from $4.3 million in 1998 to $6.3 million in 1999 while overcoming a $2.2 million increase in disposal expense.

REGIONAL MANAGER 1996 – 1998 Southern New England

Revenue base of $78 million, 6 trucking locations, 3 transfer operations, 2 MRF’s.

Profit and loss responsibility for this region. Duties same as above but on a larger scale.

Accomplishments:

Assigned to two operations that were losing a total of $130,000 monthly and reduced loss to $40,000 per month. Increased total collection revenues 8% and profit levels 11% in 1998 over 1997 levels. Received Division of the Year – shareholder pillar award. Established the first public company construction and demolition recycling operation in New England, providing another competitive advantage.

GENERAL MANAGER 1993 – 1996 Rhode Island and Central Massachusetts

Revenue base of $52 million. Full Profit and Loss accountability for the above territory.

Accomplishments:

Assigned additional responsibility of the Central Massachusetts area, an under-performing division since its acquisition in 1990. Increased profitability from breakeven to $55,000 per month in 6 months. Increased revenue from $41 million to $52 million during this three-year period. Increased profit from $2.4 million to $3.8 million during above three-year period. Promoted to Region Manager.

Profit and Loss responsibility for a $42 million solid waste collection and disposal operation in Chicago. 95 routes, 140 employees.

Accomplishments:

Designed a monthly price increase program that averaged $15,000 per month. Secured large account generating over $100,000 per month. Implemented a customer service center sales program, which was rolled out to other locations. Closed sales over the phone averaged well over $3000 per month.

Reduced accident and injury frequency by over 50%. This was accomplished by enforcing discipline; and increasing awareness of how difficult it is to compete and profitably grow the business with the burden of high injury and accident costs.

Granite State Tarps 2003-2005

Advised and assisted a medium sized canvas and tarp manufacturer to penetrate new markets. Designed marketing program and assisted the set up of their national distribution network. Worked on major national company sole source vendor arrangements.

Midstate Recovery Systems

Portland, Connecticut – General Manager 2001 – 2002

A rail served construction and demolition transfer station. Responsible for the start-up of this station located in the Hartford, Connecticut area. Duties included hiring all staff, procuring equipment and securing all customers. Within 3 months had secured over 250 tons per day.

Casella Waste Management 2000 – 2001

Massachusetts – General Manager

Responsible for 3 hauling operations, 2 transfer stations, 2 construction and demolition recycling operations.
