An Eye Surgeon with more than 28 years of experience and more than 17000 IOLs implantations including 3 years as Head of Ophthalmology Department in Government Hospital Miri, Malaysia. During the last 10 years in particular, have performed a number of Oculoplastic Surgeries, correction of retinal detachments, corneal transplants, Argon Laser Procedures, Traumatic Cataracts, Anti Glaucoma Surgeries and a number of blepharo-plasty surgeries like Entropion, Ectropion and Ptosis and DCR procedures.

To practice as an Eye Surgeon/Ophthalmic Consultant in a Hospital/Clinic of international repute with independent responsibility for the Ophthalmic Department. My passion is to teach the young doctors with my experience acquired due to my long and varied exposure in my field.

Current (from 2007):

At present working as the Associate Professor of ophthalmology in a medical college in Malaysia and confined only with the teaching of medical students since early 2012.

Worked as District surgeon in ophthalmology in Villupuram medical college in India and was in-charge of the entire district and was organizing and coordinating the campaigns and was interacting with the government and private agencies for the successful completion of the projects till 2012.

Worked part time as in-charge of oculoplasty department in a leading chain of eye hospital in south Tamil Nadu. (Vasan eye care – 2009 to 2012)

Just before this job, I have worked as the centre in charge in another multinational hospital in Tamil Nadu. (2008-2009)

Also worked as Assistant professor of ophthalmology and as the District Ophthalmic Surgeon in another Government Medical College, Tamil Nadu. (2006-2007)

Additionally, worked as ophthalmic consultant in an ISO 9001-2000 certified Hospital in Tamil Nadu which is run by a British Expat, Mrs. Sylvia Wright. (2006-2007)

2003 - 2006

Worked as the Specialist, and after evaluation by the State Ophthalmologist, as Head of the Ophthalmology in Hospital Miri, East Malaysia, under Ministry of Health, Malaysia in the public health division. It was a teaching hospital and a tertiary referral hospital and was serving the North side of East Malaysia.

Performed a large number of surgeries in Hospital Miri, Sarawak.

Gained experience in the Oculoplastic Surgeries and performed approx. 400 surgeries.

Gained good experience in Paediatric ophthalmology and was routinely involved in screening of infants for ROP.

Hospital Miri being a teaching hospital, I have trained house surgeons, medical assistants in eye and other medical officers working in the periphery in basic eye procedures.

Administrative and Organizational experience

Worked as the administrative head of Ophthalmology Department till recently that is up-to October 2006 in Malaysian Medical Service.

Previously working as the head of the Department of Ophthalmology in Government Hospital Cuddalore, India.

Was holding the post of District Program Manager in the South Arcot District (India) and was conducting mobile campaigns in which more than 25 people were directly working under me.

Trained in “corporate culture and administrative aspects of big hospitals” by the Malaysian health department.

Experienced - working in association with NGOs like Lions and Rotary and Red Crescent Malaysia where in you need a lot of skills to compassionately understand the problems of others and conduct the campaigns successfully. You have to make every one understand what is expected of him and motivate how he can contribute to the success of the institution.

Built up the department of ophthalmology from scratch and is one of the best earning departments in hospital Miri.

Built up the department of eye in Cuddalore government hospital and I have done more than 3000 surgeries there and installed the YAG machine and successfully started it.

Brought in to clinical parlance a word “one stop clinic” when working in Malaysia where in the diabetics who walk in on a certain day to the clinic, can get assessed for their sugar level, get their target organs examined in detail and if necessary get Laser Treatment on the same day without commuting day in and day out for quite a long time.
