Work Experience:
Masonicare at Newtown - Dietary Aide - July 2011 - Present
I have worked at Masonicare as a dietary aide for over four years and I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the residents and other co-workers. Working with the residents at the nursing home has had a huge impact on my life, and it has helped me understand Alzheimer's disease and other diseases that residents have. Knowing the residents at Masonicare has changed who I am as a person because I've been able to connect with people that I otherwise never would have. My duties at
Masonicare include getting things done on a time limit, understanding people, working with diversity, cleaning up after others, basic food preparation, knowing food temperatures, keeping the kitchen clean, understanding different diets, understanding resident's needs, and working as a team.
Benchmark Human Services - Direct Support Professional - August 2013 - December 2013
Before Benchmark Human Services closed their doors in Connecticut, I enjoyed my employment with the company very much. I worked with clients who had mental disabilities, which opened my eyes to their world. I got to see mental health in an entirely new light and I learned how to work with clients, redirect them, and handle situations in the community. Through this job, I became PMT certified, CPR certified, along with several in-services on how to manage clients when they have a behavior or need assistance. Working with people who have special needs has shown me that everyone is alike, and I am very interested in this field. My responsibilities at this job included handling client's money, taking clients into the community, taking clients to appointments, redirecting clients when they showed signs of a behavior, making sure clients followed their hygiene routines, and documenting how the shift went in personal logbooks, a staff communication book, and the client's program books.
Danbury Ice Arena - Concession Worker - November 2010 - April 2011
Danbury Ice Arena was my employer for six months during my attendance at Western Connecticut State University. While working at the ice arena, I had duties such as keeping the concession clean, interacting with customers, handling money responsibly, and working as a team with my co-workers. This job was a seasonal position, and I chose not to go back for the next hockey season due to my employment at Masonicare.
Drug Center Pharmacy - Cashier - July 2008 - August 2010
My employment at Drug Center Pharmacy was a good introduction into the workforce. At this job, I learned how to interact with customers, to be polite in all situations, and how to handle customer's money. Being a cashier was fun, and I enjoyed this job very much. Responsibilities at this job included setting out newspapers, completing a cleaning list nightly, being friendly with customers, labeling the stock and putting it away, and making sure the store always looked immaculate. I left this job due to my plans to attend college.
