Work Experience:

Faircloth Engineering Services, Inc.: June 2008 to Present

Owner of small consulting business contracting engineering design services to General Atomics and other companies. Designed new control systems for Morocco, Bangladesh, US DOE and DOD. Designed entirely new computer DAC type control systems to replace antiquated analog control systems. Contract with Thermo Fisher Scientific to design Class 1E Instrumentation and Control systems for power reactor plants throughout the world. Utilized PLC controllers and LINUX based DAC systems to input and control over 500 IO lines of digital and analog signals such as temperature, pressure, flow, mass flow controllers, gas and water valve controls, heater controls, pump control, VFD and Stepper motor controls.

General Atomics: January 2004 to June 2008

Project Engineer Electrical – Advanced Process Systems

Lead Electrical Engineer for contract with Bechtel-Parsons and U.S. Army Corp of Engineers to design a chemical weapons destruction pilot plant at Richland, KY. System was turnkey project to destroy nerve agent VX missiles that were aged beyond use. Designed all electrical plant systems, instrumentation and control systems including all mechanical systems integration into the control system. System used over 1000 IO lines of temperature, pressure, flow controls, valve position and controls, pump controls, robotics control, level controls using float and ultrasonic type, wired and RF transmitters. Task included conduit sizing and wiring requirements.

Project Engineer Electrical - TRIGA Reactors

Lead Instrumentation and Control Engineer for major contracts to supply a multi functional 2 MW research reactor complex to Morocco, and a 10 MW reactor to Thailand. Duties include project management of project I & C systems, design of all electrical/electro-mechanical/electronic systems. Supervise all electrical engineering staff on project. Responsible for initial criticality startup of all new or upgraded reactors. Perform all design; supervise fabrication/testing, and field installations of any minor systems sold to the global customer base of research reactors. Design engineer for all electronic systems, including PCA design (PADS, ORCAD), mechanical layout of system level (AutoCAD), and technical writing.

Thermo Gamma-Metrics: December 2000 to September 2003

Senior Electrical Engineer- Nuclear Industry

Perform project engineering for all nuclear related instrumentation. Responsible to perform instrumentation design and development from system concept through prototype construction, testing, production, and delivery. Includes marketing concepts and proposal development. Generate Qualification Test Reports and Reliability Reports for Class 1E systems. Design and develop new instrumentation circuits and systems.

TRIGA Reactors Products and Services Manager: (1997 to 2000) Project management of all customer logistics support project. Design and install all instrumentation and control systems. Maintain software for the Digital Control Console and support customer technical problems. Maintain control over all sub-contracted electronics work.

TRIGA Fuel Fabrication (TFF) Supervisor: (1995 to 1997) Supervise the TRIGA fuel fabrication day-to-day operations. Performed upgrades on fabrication process to automate the process using PLC controls.

Staff Technician: (August 1987 to 1995) Licensed by the federal government to operate and maintain the multi-reactor complex in San Diego for irradiation purposes, as well as research needs. Responsible for all operations of reactor and mechanical systems, including gas systems (helium, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen). Responsible for the design and repair of the systems used to control and monitor plant parameters. Experienced with Data Acquisition Systems and PLC system design, maintenance, programming, and repair.

U.S. Army Experience: (2007 to Present) Master Sergeant (E8), Combat Deployed to OIF (IRAQ) 2011. See Attached Army Bio Sketch.

U.S. Navy Experience: (1979 to 1987) Senior Reactor Operator USS Enterprise and USS Longbeach. Reactor Controls Lead Petty Officer. U.S. Navy SCUBA Diver qualified.
