Senior Analyst

Wrote code to develop discount rates for insurance groups to offer to employer groups (individuals or companies) on behalf of Milliman, an international actuarial consulting company.

Wrote SQL code for Excel-based application that identified Medicare medical discount rates. Application was marketed to 40 internal Milliman offices and sold to insurance companies.

After five months of employment, retained all duties related to maintaining SQL code while accepting additional duty of writing customized SQL client code to generate up to two weekly Excel packages of four or more reports using Blue Cross/Blue Shield data. Reports compared and contrasted health insurance discount rates that insurance companies or employer groups paid to doctors or medical facilities. Predominant clients were managers at Blue Cross/Blue Shield and managers at other health insurance companies.

COVENTRY, Atlanta, Georgia January 2012 - August 2013

Senior Medical Economics Analyst

Used technology to investigate and respond to approximately 10 medical utilization and cost inquiries yearly from C-level executives and directors of Coventry, a health insurance provider.

Used Bi-query and Excel to write analyses to project cost savings for reducing inpatient bed days by $1.2 million and for identifying overpayments on CPAP rentals, possibility providing savings of $80,000 for Coventry’s health insurance plan. Submitted analyses to Coventry executives and directors for a decision regarding implementation.

Used Bi-query, Excel, and Word to write six-page colonoscopy analysis for cost impact of specific medical procedures. Executive Team used analysis to decide whether or not to modify benefit guidelines.

Trained and mentored entry-level analyst in all aspects of actuarial position.

Used Bi-query, SAS, and SQL to write a report that quantified all claim dollars Coventry paid within two-year time frame to all providers. Chief Operating Officer used report to make changes affecting PPO benefits.
