Area Manager - Fabrication Department

Responsible for the fabrication of windshields in the gravity sag and press form areas, in addition to the Value Add Department.

Total workforce consisted of 150 hourly and 20 salary employees comprised of engineers and production supervisors.

AREA MANAGER- Windshield Fabrication, Gravity Sag (May 2006- May 2008)

Nashville Glass Plant - Nashville, TN

Responsible for the quality, production, and safety of the gravity sag windshield area that produced windshield for Ford Motor Company.

Developed and implemented a work plan to allow the downsizing of the organization without adversely effecting production or quality. The workforce of 130 employees was reduced over time through attrition and buyouts to a population of less than 100. Adjusted work schedules and crew sizes to meet customer requirements during this period and with no labor issues.

Established a plan to meet the area objectives in Quality. Organization had received 14 QR’s from Ford prior to me going to Nashville. Finished the year at 18 for gravity sag. Worked with the engineers and made process changes that resulted in the elimination of 200% inspection and favorable results to the customer.

Assisted Kansas City in identifying the root cause for a windshield breakage issue they were having on the Escape. Issue was internal to Kansas City and once the correction was made warranty for breakage was reduced.

Developed plans to assist Kansas City and Michigan Truck on resolving a distortion issue in the windshields. Vinyl supplier had equipment malfunctions in their process that adversely affected the product we were using. Proposed a engineering change to Ford Motor Company that resolved the distortion issue and resulted in a cost save to all parties, as well.

Developed a plan to address a major cost penalty in fabrication with the use of the acid resistant paint proposed by staff. Brought in another supplier that met all the Ford requirements and utilized the new paint reducing the scrap costs associated with paint.

AREA MANAGER- Stabilizer Bars/ PLANT ENGINEERING MANAGER (2005-2006)

Monroe Plant- Monroe, MI

Responsible for the quality, production and safety for the stabilizer bars area and manage the maintenance organization for a 1.5M square foot facility.

Assist in the development and implementation of new technologies and facilities to meet Ford production deadlines. Plant was given the assignment to develop a new stabilizer bar by May of 2006. Established a team of hourly and salary employees to determine the changes necessary to meet our commitment. The team had the bar developed by April, 2006.

AREA MANAGER– Driveline (2004-2005)

Managed fabrication of drive shafts for Ford and General Motors.

Initiated Program Management concept in manufacturing area to address specific customer concerns.

Developed and implemented plans to reduce warranty concerns on a specific program. Facility changes resulted in a reduction of claims from 370 to 5 in less than 15 months and $1.0M savings in cost.

Implemented lean initiatives on the most complex line in driveshaft. The open capacity generated by the team allowed the sourcing of another drive shaft to the line.

Recognized as member of divisions material cost reduction team saving $4M in 2004.

PLANT QUALITY CONTROL MANAGER (2002-2003)

Nashville Glass Plant, Nashville, TN

Responsible for the outgoing quality of products produced, flat glass, windshields and door glass. Assigned to the organization during the restructuring of the Quality Department.

Established expectations and assisted Quality Team in meeting plant requirements with 33% fewer salaried employees.

Balanced duties of Quality Control with the Tempering Area Manager position.

TEMPERING AREA MANAGER (2001-2002)

Managed three shifts in backlite area and nine lehr shifts in the door glass area which had a organization of 400 employees. Assigned to rebalance tempering organization during plant restructuring.

Held communications meetings with employees sharing plan on how and when company would exit tempering business.

Reduced organization to 100 employees in less than a year with no adverse effect to quality or safety.

Improved productivity by 10% for remaining door glass lehr shifts.

Mentored two engineers in accomplishing their Six Sigma Black Belt training. Their projects led to a $1.0M scrap savings.

PLANT ENGINEERING MANAGER (1998-2001)

Managed the plant engineering office and the maintenance organization, and assigned as the Environmental Representative for the facility.

Oversaw $50M project to install two windshield lines meeting tight timing requirements.

Established construction team of UAW plant journeymen and outside contractors to share work. Project completed on time and within financial budget.

Volunteered to assist windshield area manager to improve throughput of the lines.

Took over managing windshield lines improving performance by over 20%.

Ford Motor Company, Dearborn, MI 1995-1998

BODY AREA MANAGER

St. Louis Assembly Plant, Hazelwood, MO

Managed fabrication of Aerostar and Explorer bodies and responsible for the vehicles till they left the plant, “cradle to grave” approach to production.

Increased focus and rebalancing of lines to beat out Louisville built Explorers in quality. Net result, SLAP exceeded LAP by over 10% in quality in less than two years.

Plant team recognized for having lowest TGW (things gone wrong) of Ford trucks for 4th quarter of 1997, a 44% improvement over prior year.
