Role: Global Defect Testing Manager

As part of the Salesforce.com test team at the client site I was to undertake the role of Global Defect Testing PM role for the Business Testing and Validation User Acceptance Testing (UAT).

The focus of the V&V and testing acceptance was around the delivery/integration of Salesforce.com in the Cloud for the various Sales, Support and Financial groups in Philips Medical Devices division. The solution had considerable customization for the various global markets and centers for different market sectors.

The project was running the Agile Methodology for code development and deployment; worked with the Philips PM/Scrum Master and Validation Manager to realize the product features.

As part of my role was to also provide adequate documentation around V&V compliance for the regulatory requirements for computerized systems (21 CFR Parts 11, 210 & 820).

Was asked to join the project to bring my knowledge of the regulated environment (FDA) and associated governance for two phases of testing that the client was executing.

From prior experience the client lacked control of the triage process and wanted me to provide oversight, monitoring, measuring of the frequency of defects and triaging to resolution.

Collaborated with the business folks whilst in Business Testing to manage the defects that were recorded in SharePoint for triaging and discussion at the Product Owner Council (POC) on a periodic basis. Facilitated the recording and eventual resolution of the defects and bugs identified by the global business community – Asia PAC, Europe, North America and China.

One of the facets to my role was to be the mediator between the testing groups and the functional team. This consisted of providing input to the Development Manager and the Product Owner on the criticality of the defects/bugs identified and ensuring that a fix is available.

Reported to the PMO and Senior Management on a daily basis during testing, otherwise on a weekly basis for test phase progress. Generated daily reports on the defect-triage process and the level of criticality and impact to the business for go-live.

During test execution managed a team in excess of 20-30 global testers and around 8-10 development staff on-shore and off-shore, who fixed the defects/bugs.

Business Testing and Validation UAT were successful phases of the project and worked closely with the PM to establish a solid foundation for the next phases of the project.

Project: Farmers Insurance, Woodland Hills, CA 10/2011 to 05/2012

Role: Sr. Test Manager

Joined the project to manage, monitor and coordinate the testing effort for the Billing system at the client.

The project scope was to manage the off-shore (20) and on-shore staff (5) that were engaged in Functional, Regression, Test Automation and Micro-Release initiatives.

Managed and monitored the day-to-day activities for testing and the releases under my control. Produced all the daily reporting for the various types of testing being executed in various environments at any given time.

Solely responsible for the distribution, triage and resolution of associated testing defects encountered by the testing teams and controlled the project schedule accordingly.

Collaborated with Farmers Management team to understand and deliver the current release for the Billing System for all account managers. Also worked in conjunction with the Release Manager to manage the scope activities for a particular release through the approved Change Management process and CCRB meetings.

Worked in conjunction with the following teams on a daily basis: Development, Solution Design, Technical and Functional teams; as well as Support to manage the deployment of batches for test execution.

The environments that were used for test execution were programmed to be run in an accelerated manner as to traverse billing dates as required for transactions.

Technology used was SAP FSCD, CRM, FICO and Mainframe Green Screens. EAgent a front-end (CRM) tool was used by the testing teams to validate the functionality of the latest release.

HP QC was used to manage and triage defects on a daily basis; coordinated the daily defect meetings with the various teams to bring the defects to closure and retest.

Project: Warner Bros, Burbank, CA 10/2011 to 12/2011

Role: Sr. Test Manager

Joined the project to facilitate and manage the testing initiative and the continuance of the testing effort along the lines of the Testing Approach (pre-defined).

The project scope was of an International nature whereby the SAP IPM/CRM solution was to be deployed in a multi-region fashion. The solution being developed was one of a kind and highly customized. The developed system was centric around Financials, BI reporting, IPM, and CRM SAP modules.

With the aid of the Functional Team test script creation was started to initially test the developed functionality against certain RICEF objects and the core functionality of the system.

Facilitated the improvement processes around QA, Testing, Project Delivery and OCM within the project delivery model.

Managed the initial SIT test cycle readiness activities and engaged the various teams of the project, i.e. PMO, Functional Analysts & Business Process Analysts/SME’s, Data Conversion Team, Technical Teams and the Test Team.

I was asked to enable the various teams on the path of the testing scope and build out the necessary test scenarios and test cases so as to have complete coverage within the limits of the testing phase.

Managed a team of two test analysts on-site and a team of 20 other testers from the process and functional areas of WB. Also controlled the project schedule with the overall Project Delivery Manager.

Project: L’Oreal US, NJ 05/2011 – 07/2011

Role: Sr. Testing Project Manager

Joined the project to deliver the following tools to the IT group: HP QC, HP QTP and HP Load Runner.

The project was to upgrade the existing HP products from version 8.x to 11.0; I personally oversaw and installed HP QC and QTP (aka FT).

The remit of my role was ensure the smooth transition of the product install and provide oversight, guidance and documentation pertaining to the installation process.

The installation process was carried out in incremental stages for HP QC so as to retain the project data stored in the old version of HP QC, i.e. 8.x 9.2 11.0 (QC-ALM). The same principal applied to HP QTP.

An off-shore resource was brought in to help deploy HP LR and Performance Center.

With this shorter engagement I was asked to resolve some resource issues that had transpired with the project by the AVP of IT; so assisted the client in delivering the test tools.

A more critical part of my role was to be an advisor on best practices for tool usage and development, as an integral part of their testing program.

Project: UCB Pharmaceuticals, Belgium 09/2010 – 10/2010

Role: Sr. Testing Project Manager

Joined the client in Belgium, for a project spanning three work streams to the Global IT SAP Competency Center. The three streams were around the following key deliverables: [1] SAP Test Assessment, [2] Validation Assessment and [3] HP Quality Center (QC) 10.0 upgrade.

My responsibility was to manage the overall delivery of all three streams to the client within a tight time-frame. The project engagement was to be executed over a period of 6 weeks onsite and with off-shore support staff available to assist in delivery.

With the upgrade of the test tools I was managed and directed the multiple customization workshops for HP QC – so as to deliver a more refined and applicable interface for the client staff to utilize. The workshops involved the definition of new work flows, QC module changes, system field changes and addition of new fields, global template roll-out and reporting features.

The SAP test assessment was conducted around targeted interviews and reviewing existing supporting documentation. This approach was applied to the Validation assessment as well to ascertain the state of GxP validation activities within the organization.

The other main delivery item for the engagement was to upgrade the current HP QC installations in the client Development, Acceptance and Production environments. With the assistance of Intelligroup QC expertise off-shore (India) this delivery was successfully implemented with my supervision.

Another facet of my role was to facilitate the Validation – GxP assessment activities and documentation review within the client. An Intelligroup validation expert was brought onsite for the assessment and to assist the client Validation Manager.

Worked with the client project management team to customize HP QC to suit their needs for manual scripting and test execution.

As part of the one of the engagement outputs was to produce the necessary validation documentation to support the HP QC 10.0 upgrade and document the design/configuration requirements for QC usage within the SAP organization.

Project: CenterPoint Energy, TX 06/2010 – 09/2010

Role: Sr. Testing Project Manager

Was assigned to the project in Houston, at the client to deliver the Testing Assessment of the organizations current Testing Strategy and Test Processes for the IT department.

The client IT department had approached the Global Testing Services team to assist them identify current gaps in their testing approach and actual execution of their testing efforts across the SAP landscape.

My responsibility was to conduct relevant interviews with help of a Test Analyst onsite and to obtain information related to testing within the organization.

The assessment lasted for full schedule of 3 weeks onsite, understanding and comprehending the lack of best practice and consulting with the various business groups responsible for testing.

The main product of this extensive assessment was a report and presentation to the senior management team at the client site, to present my findings, recommendations and potential risks that the client currently faced.

As part of my role it was expected that all levels of management was approached to contribute to the ongoing investigation and extract as much information as possible to feed into the assessment report.

A SAP transactional tool was utilized to determine their current state within the Development and Production environments for SAP. The tool results allowed us to predict and plan the model for short, medium and long-term plans that the client should employ as an on-going strategy.

The testing assessment covered a lot of detailed areas around testing for example: test environments, testing tools, coverage definition, documentation, release management, change management, defect management and etc.

One of the main outputs from the assessment was to enable the client move forward with a structured plan to bring their testing maturity and competency level up from their current standing.

INDEPENDENT CONSULTANT 01/2010 to 06/2010

Project: NIKE, OR

Role: Sr. Global Test Manager – Emerging Markets

Joined the client Headquarters to assist with the global SAP upgrade and enhancement package implementation. The organization was moving to ECC 6.0 and the latest enhancement pack with the associated Support Packs as well.

My responsibility was to undertake the overall testing effort for the Emerging Markets (EM) division of the client Global IT; with respect to the SAP project.

Within the Emerging Markets Geography there are segmented Territories, i.e. India, South-East Asia, Latin America, South Africa and China; which I had responsibility for with regards to testing readiness and execution.

The role was a demanding role as the teams were virtually located but also included very territory specific requirements for SAP modular testing needs.

Managed a globally dispersed test team of around 120 members from various countries within the territories.

Dedicated time to the Unicode development of the SAP delivery as well as training in testing tools and general upgrade documentation for cross-training of current users of the system.

Managed the project delivery aspect to the project as it related to the QA activities within the various global solution centers. Also, controlled the project schedule and work packages with the various teams.

Leveraged knowledge of the landscape and testing capabilities with the SAP project/the client QA Team to deliver a comprehensive suite of test artifacts for the program.

The impact on the business was considerable, as each country within a territory had specific SAP needs and those had to be met from a design, configuration and development mode. My responsibility was to ensure that these activities were delivered to the Territory Leads for user acceptance from the Development Teams located in India and US.

Project: Research In Motion (RIM), Canada 11/2009 – 01/2010

Role: Sr. Test Manager/PM

In this engagement I joined the ES2P (Electronic Source-To-Pay) and Procure-To-Pay (P2P) project team as the Senior Test Manager to assist the overall program.

The client was going to implement SRM 7.0, Extended Classic Scenario business flow version and have it deployed across the enterprise. With the implementation of the SRM solution the following essential interfaces were also in-scope for testing: VIM, SUS, E2Open, OpenText, TREX, ECC, and SRM MDM.

I took responsibility for the initial test management engagement, strategy, and setup with the various functional and technical teams within RIM. Managed the Consulting personnel on-shore and off-shore as the other preferred vendor supplying testing and development staff.

Put the testing framework in place to assist with the overall testing, i.e. Functional, Performance and Test Automation. I was involved in the project planning and recruiting of key personnel for testing project; as well advising the Technology Solution Team on best practices to adopt for the solution being delivered.

I was successful in engaging with key groups/leads for the following components to be integrated into the testing framework for such areas as: Defect Management and Traceability, KPI’s, Training, SOX Compliance, Data Strategy (Master Data and Replication), Security, Interfaces, Functional/Manual testing scope and test project planning.

The overall program of projects at the client was being run under the RunSAP initiative to streamline delivery and implementation activities for customers.

Project: USIS (Government Agency), VA 09/2009 – 10/2009

Joined the client to deliver the Functional Quick Start project for their testing group.

One my responsibility was to ensure the timely implementation of the testing tool suite that was being introduced to the organization for the first time: HP QC, HP QTP, SAP TAO, HP BPT, SAP SolMan Adapter and HP Load Runner. Personally installed HP QC, HP QTP and SAP TAO.

Managed the overall project activities/deliverables for the Enterprise Projects group and worked closely with the client Integration Manager. Familiarized myself with the core business functional areas: HCM, FI, P2P and OTC; understanding the BPP’s and the associated test scripts in Solution Manager.

The project was run in conjunction with the ASAP methodology from SAP and we aligned ourselves with the internal to the client deliverables for the overall SAP project mandate.

Another facet to my role was to assist the client project teams better understand the tools and capabilities for various testing phases of the new SAP functional system delivery.

Project: State of Washington-Department of Personnel, WA 06/2009 – 09/2009

Role: Sr. Test Architect

Joined the Department of Personnel – ISD (DOP – ISD) group to deliver the Functional Quick Start initiative for the agency. My role for the project as the Senior Test Architect was to help define and guide the DOP in the deployment and implementation of the Quick Start toolset, which comprised of: HP QC, HP QTP, SAP TAO, HP BPT and the SolMan Adapter.

For the DOP this was brand new and so I was tasked with creating a delivery plan that suited their specific requirements but also fulfilling the requirements from the project SOW.

The project was an incredible collaboration activity between the SAP Testing Services Team and the teams from the DOP – ISD, such as: Basis, Network Support, Helpdesk Support and the PMO Office.

Project: Leprino Foods, CO 05/2009 – 06/2009

In this engagement with the client, my role as the Senior Test Manager was to deliver Functional Test Automation into the clients’ test environment.

The project sought to implement the SAP TAO tool on virtual desktops remotely.

In conjunction with the client Test Manager we were able to deliver the SAP TAO solution to over ten desktops with some challenges, but with success. The project was unique in the fact that remote installations will have some issues, but the delivery was a major milestone for the client for their preparation for impending test phases.

Was also responsible for the associated documentation to support the project and training material was also delivered.
