EXPERIENCE

NORTH CAROLINA A&T STATE UNIVERSITY, Greensboro, North Carolina 2005-present

Research Associate, Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Design

Adjunct Assistant Professor, Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering 2010-present

Conduct research in the conversion of biomass and waste to syngas for power generation and biofuels for transportation. Currently collaborating in designing and setting up gasification and biodiesel laboratories on the university’s 600-acre farm. Source and purchase necessary parts and assemble the systems. Teach courses in bioenergy, computer programming and electrical engineering.

Major Achievements:

Performed the first cost / benefit analysis of the three methods of converting biomass or waste to electrical power – combustion, conventional gasification and plasma gasification – and presented the results at the 2012 International Conference on Solid Waste Technology and Management in Philadelphia.

Collaborated in a project, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense, to develop a teaching tool called “Bio-e Tool” that uses MATLAB software to analyze the economic and environmental viability of both bioenergy and biodiesel.

Designed and built a direct current (DC) machine and various relays to demonstrate electrical processes, thereby enhancing students’ comprehension of the subject.

Teaching Assistant / Instructor: 2005-2010

Taught computer programming in MATLAB for Engineers courses. Assist in teaching and developing assignments for the micro-processing course for juniors in the Electrical Engineering program, as well as the University Studies course for freshmen and sophomores in the school’s Interdisciplinary Program.

Major Achievement:

Advised, counseled and mentored Ph.D. students in the Energy and Environmental Systems program.

UNIVERSITY OF MINES AND TECHNOLOGY, Tarkwa, Ghana: 1994-2006

Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor / Chairman, Electrical Engineering Department 1994-2006

Taught undergraduate academic courses and laboratories in electrical and electromagnetic engineering, electronics and computer applications. Supervised more than 20 thesis topics for graduate students in

electrical engineering. Served as Faculty Examinations Officer and a member of the Computer Management Board.

Major Achievements:

Expanded and redesigned the Electrical Laboratory to make machines and equipment more accessible to students.

Developed and implemented a 4-year course structure in which all students perform experiments on all the machines and equipment in the lab.

Electrical Consultant / Development Board Member: 2001-2005

Designed and oversaw the installation and maintenance of computers as well as electrical power machines and equipment throughout the university. Supervised the installation, upkeep and repair of household appliances and equipment belonging to university faculty and staff.

Major Achievement:

Designed and installed electrical power systems in 4 major campus buildings.

INDEPENDENT ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR, Tarkwa, Ghana: 2001-2006

Designed and installed electrical and central air conditioning systems for office buildings, churches and workshop complexes. Repaired and maintained large household appliances including washing machines, furnaces and refrigerators.

Major Achievement:

Created architectural and electrical drawings and single-handedly installed wiring and equipment for numerous facilities, including a 3-storey office and workshop complex, a 2-storey church and the Teberebie Goldfields.

TARKWA GOLD FIELDS LTD., OF STATE GOLD MINING CORPORATION, GHANA (SGMC)

Senior Electrical Engineer/Sectional Electrical Engineer

Acted as Chief Electrical Engineer for the mine. Provided the installation, repair and maintenance of all high and low tension electrical machines including Battery Locomotives, Motors, Winders, Compressors, Transformers, Overhead and Underground Power Transmission, Ball Mills, Crushers, Conveyor Drives as well as the workshop. Managed power reliability and performed quick responses to power failures.

Major Achievement:

Modified a relay automatic sequence controls systems at the Crusher Plant, which posed operational problems at the plant.
