Environmental manager responsibilities include managing the working staff, and training them appropriately, so that they act as a single workforce and contribute equally towards improving the environmental performance of the Company. Establish department objectives, goals, strategies, and measures; and monitoring progress toward department goals. Monitoring and reporting key performance indicators (KPI) to ensure efficient operation of environmental programs. Monitoring environmental processes to assure proper surface and ground water management (i.e. permitting, treatment, etc); storm water plan and structure management; SPCC plan requirements are upheld; and monitored environmental performance of regulated units to assure compliance under the facilities Title V permit. Participate and represent the organization by participating at various industry associations through participation on committees (LEPC and LMS) or conferences (NCASI); and local emergency response exercises such as a mock event featuring a simulated railcar accident and resulting chlorine leak with injuries to passing motorists near the train. In addition, provides technical reviews of monitoring and operation/maintenance (O&M) reports and recommends design modifications, as appropriate. As necessary, seals the design reviews in accordance with Chapter 471, F.S., and 21H-26.001, F.A.C.
Evaluates cost-effectiveness and compatibility of remedial alternatives proposed for implementation.
Pursues and evaluates the development of innovative technologies for site restoration. Assists in the development of program design criteria and standards for various types of remediation technologies.
Work with other sections and the districts in the implementation of engineering controls to mitigate the effects of environmental contamination.
Serve as district liaison for responsible party cleanup sites. The district liaisons work with each of the regulatory districts on a rotating basis to review site progress, make recommendations for improving the speed of the cleanup and closure, check for consistency in site management decisions among the districts and assist with the verification of accurate and up-to-date data in the COMET database using established reports and metrics.
