Hamer Street Consulting LLC 2013-present

Founded Hamer Street Consulting to provide interim technology leadership to startup companies in the areas of web development and mobile technologies.

Created the Java computational engine responsible for performing all financial calculations for the AltX hedge fund analysis application. Defined and implemented the caching algorithms to support elastic search and browser based, real time financial analysis.

Developed the analysis package of the Evaluations for Surgeons (EFS) application used to evaluate and rank surgeons and residents of hospitals and medical schools. EFS was developed with Java, Hibernate, Spring, and Angular and had associated Android and iOS applications.

Defined the machine learning framework used to optimize the trading of options associated with common stock. Led the team which developed the Ruby on Rails and MySQL architecture which performed the parallel processing of stock and option price data to generate profitable trades. Selected D3.js as the primary web scripting language to display results and historical data.

Managed the development of all web technologies for series A start up using a cloud based infrastructure with Python/Django, MySQL, and Mongo DB. The web site provides a hosted solution that is integrated with the mobile, web, and print publications of large retailers. Defined the architecture used by iOS applications to create virtual interiors based on images generated by the phone’s camera.

NetInformer, a Media General Company (via acquisition) 2008 – 2012

Joined Media General (NYSE: MEG) by their acquisition of NetInformer to serve as their mobile and social networking thought leader.

Led the ten person NetInformer team and the twenty five person Media General team which architected and implemented the transformation of Media General’s ad hoc mobile platform to a Rails based framework. Instituted an engineering wide agile development process, mandated the participation of all stake holders, and served as the first scrum master.

Increased Media General’s revenues by mobilizing and monetizing their existing content. Transitioned NetInformer’s consumer based services to the healthcare and medical verticals, and worked with Media General’s IT department to assure HIPAA and PCI compliance. Led the development of Media General’s first two Android applications: Friday Night Blitz and Ohio State Fair Foodfinder.

Founder, CTO

NetInformer, LLC 2000 – 2008

Founded NetInformer, and provided the technical insight, to develop a wireless platform that improved the efficiency of small to medium sized companies through the use of mobile technologies.

Hired and managed the in-house and offshore engineering teams responsible for product development, quality assurance, release management, and operations. Developed procedures for each of these functional units to ensure on time delivery of high quality products.

Worked directly with our clients that included Sprint, Verizon, Major League Baseball (MLB), and the National Basketball Association (NBA) to integrate our platform with their infrastructure. Directed the development of two mobile social network sites which were sold to private third parties. Limbo, an SMS based, reverse auction product was sold to 41414.com. RingoRang, an online and mobile trivia game was sold to Vergence Entertainment.

Keynote Systems, San Mateo, CA 1997 – 2000

Invented Keynote’s patented Transaction Perspective to measure the time-based performance of e-commerce and secure web sites from the end user perspective. The Transaction Perspective product allowed Keynote to go public, and the core technology is still used in their mobile, web, and streaming performance measurement products.

Managed the team responsible for developing, testing, and deploying the Transaction Perspective service. Under my supervision, this team grew from two engineers to a product group of more than twenty engineers and support staff.

Director of Engineering

Virgil Corporation, San Francisco, CA, 1994 – 1997

Directed the development of one of the first real-time stock quote servers, and associated client, that distributed financial content via the Internet. Virgil was acquired by Wall Street Access.

SQL Software, South San Francisco, CA, 1992 – 1994

Hired and managed the team which developed SQL Coder, one of the first Windows applications to provide connectivity in a heterogeneous client-server environment. SQL-Coder’s technologies are still a part of Computer Associate’s Unicenter SQL-Station.

As a team member, assisted in the development of PageKeeper a document management and OCR application. Contributions included creating an intuitive user interface, and interfacing with the optical character recognition (OCR) engine.
