DUTIES AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Technical competency
--Board certified radiologist with 30 years experience; first 5 years in private practice and next 25
years as a radiologist in the United States Air Force. Interpreted plain film, CT, ultrasound and
mammography studies throughout entire career; currently compliant with MQSA standards; last 15
years has performed shoulder, wrist and hip arthrography and both ultrasound-guided and
stereotactic breast biopsies. During two tours in Afghanistan, dealt with mass casualty situations, and
performed numerous trauma whole-body CT scans on gunshot wound, IED and RPG victims. In the
absence of an ultrasound tech, during first deployment to Afghanistan, personally performed over 300
sonograms on NATO and combatant personnel. Utilized PACS system for 10 years and
voice-recognition dictation exclusively for last 3 years.
Technical application
--Over 20 years has served as chief of radiology at multiple Air Force bases, and despite having to
perform administrative duties, still spends 75% of time in clinical work, interpreting images and
consulting with other providers, to include monthly Tumor Board and Radiology-Pathology Breast
Conference.
Planning and Evaluation
--One of many responsibilities as chief of radiology involves the scheduling of daily and on-call duties
for the radiologists, in addition to patient scheduling for each modality. Provides inputs to
administrators regarding annual budget, manning and equipment issues. Most recently, helped plan
the acquisition of new CT, PET/CT and fluoroscopy units for a comprehensive, 2 year hospital
renovation project. Writes detailed annual performance reports on each radiologist and the senior
enlisted technicians, in addition to reviewing promotion recommendation reports. Responsible for
establishing and enforcing patient and staff safety standards for Air Force and Joint Commission
inspections.
Interpersonal Skills
--Demonstrates a professional attitude when dealing with patients, peers, superiors and subordinates.
On a daily basis, resolves intra- and extra-departmental problems in a diplomatic manner.The largest
department he led, numbered 90 staff and 20 students. In addition to many years as chief of
radiology, also served for nearly three years as a squadron commander which, among many other
responsibilities, involved dealing with discipline issues, and held the authority to discharge members
from the AIr Force. On many occasions interacted with high-level civilian and military members
throughout the base, and displayed a calm, yet confident attitude.
Teaching Others
--For the last 15 years oversaw the Phase II training classes for the ultrasound and radiologic
technologist students at 3 different AIr Force bases. These comprise a 9 month course of didactic
instruction and on-the-job experience. The past 10 years has provided week long radiology rotations
for Air Force PA students at two bases. Frequent consultation and teaching opportunities were
available with the presence of family practice, ER, surgery and OB residents at my last two bases. I
recently participated in a mentorship program while deployed, giving lectures to Afghan doctors
about the imaging of trauma and ICU patients.
