PROFESSIONAL SYNOPSIS
Timken Engineerd Surfaces Laboratories (TESL), Akron, OH
July 2012-2015
PhD Candidate: Substabtially improved service life of rolling element bearins by applying Tribological Coatings in order to mitigate surface failures such as Micropitting, Wear and Surface Fatigue. Optimazation, application, advantage and disadvantage of hard coatings vs. soft coatings in rolling element bearings are mapped out.
Effect of change in direction of high speed winds on formation of adiabatic shear bands and formation of todays strange failure; White Etching Cracking (WEC) in bearings of wind turbines studied by conducting Multiaxial Fatigue Testing (MTS) along with Rolling Contact Fatigue.
Used PCS MPR, MTS, RCF, LEM, PAPVD, TEM, FIB, SEM/EDAX, X-Ray, 3D Optical Surface Profiler, FTIR
Testing MPR parts with/without WC/a-C:H and Black Oxide coatings for tribological, wear, micropitting and surface fatigue characterisation.
Study effect of several variables of specific lubricant film thickness, hardness, surface roughness, temperature etc on surface damage.
Conducting MTS and RCF testing on 52100 rods to generate sub-surface WEC.
Developed practical and theoretical tribological knowledge of application of hard and soft coatings in rolling element bearings in order to enhance working life of the system significantly.
Award winner in STLE Annual International Conference (Orlando-2014) as a young tirbologist.
Drafted 4 scientific research papers, prepared and presented findings with lectures and posters at 3 national and international seminars and conferences.
North Dakota State University, Fargo, ND
Jan 2012- June 2012
PhD student: Laser methods in electronics manufacturing, Laser-Assisted Electronics Assembly, 3D printing, aerogel.
Shiraz University, Shiraz, Iran
2010-2012
Project Manager: Promoted development of Laser materials processing, led to write a research proposal to study and perform Finite Element Analysis on laser surface treatment. Laser heat treating’s paramaters optimized based on tribological performance of laser treated part. Model was able to predict the depth and hardness of the hardened area, the hardness profile, and prove that laser surface treatment procures more improved results in ferrite stainless steel rather than martensitic stainless steel.
Used Pulsed Nd:YAG Laser, SEM/EDAX, X-Ray, and pin-on-disc.
Collaborate in FEM simulation with the Comercial Software ABAQUS.
Served as supervisor for two undergraduate and one gradute students whilst engaged in laboratory practice.
Best research proposal winner in Marvdasht Azad University-Iran.
Wrote successful report on the project and published 2 scientific papers in peer reviewed journals.
Iranian National Centre for Laser Science and Technology, Tehran, Iran
2006-2009
Masters Research Assistant: Successfully optimized processing parameters of laser surface hardening of AISI 420 stainless steel treated by pulsed Nd:YAG laser applicable for gas and cyclic turbine blades in order to mitigate cavitation wear at low pressure rows.
Used Pulsed Nd:YAG Laser, High Power CO2 Laser, SEM/EDAX, Potentiostat, metallographic equipment.
Studied and examined LSH processing paramaters in details.
Studied corrosion, stress corrosion cracking and hydrogen embrittlement before and after treatment.
Wrote successful master of science thesis including 3 peer reviewed journal papers and presenting 3 presentations in national and internation conferences.
