Experience

Process Engineering Co-op, Unifrax LLC, Tonawanda, NY. June 2014 – Dec 2014

• Reverse-engineered and mathematically modeled kinematics and dynamics of needle -punch looms on Matlab.

• Characterized the needle punching process and its effect on structural integrity of a nonwoven ceramic insulator.

• Increased throughput of the laboratory needler by 21% by recommending upgrades for its indexing ratchet.

• Performed thermal tests on a heat press to benchmark time-dependent behavior of conductivity of ceramic mats.

• Validated the above against ISO standards for thermal insulation.

• Utilized Solidworks to develop a process control design for off-line production of a proprietary ceramic fiber mat.

Graduate Researcher, Energy Systems Design Laboratory, SUNY at Buffalo. Sept 2014 – May 2015

Masters Project: Application of 3D printing to fabricate lightweight, optimized structural design of a micro windmill airfoil blade.

• Conducted ASTM specified UTM testing to characterize anisotropic material properties of 3D printed ABS polymer.

• Conducted stress analyses for parts 3D printed with ABS and those that are vacuum-formed from fiberglass composites.

• Utilized Abaqus and Hyperworks for structural, FEA simulations of airfoils aimed at minimizing their mass.

• Formulated cost estimates to assess the practical feasibility of FDM printed rotor blades.

Business Development Executive, Keshav Foam, Mumbai, India. . June 2012 - July 2013

• Led a team of three responsible for built-to-order manufacturing of custom foam, upholstered and trim products.

• Negotiated contracts with vendors and clients; also managed distribution of finished goods.

• Constructed an inventory management software using VBA which resulted in a 5%-10% reduction of static inventory.

Lecturer, Engineering Drawing (part-time). Taught ED to 21 students distributed over two classes. April 2013 - July 2013

CAD design and tooling intern, Anandji Haridas & Co. Pvt. Ltd, Mumbai, India. May 2011 - Aug 2011

• Designed dies of deep-drawn sheetmetal press dies for automobile body-in-white attachments like tractor hoods.

• Used UG NX for CAD. Generated CNC G-code in Delcam.

• Helped implement Just-in-time and Lean manufacturing principles on the shop floor by utilizing a Kanban workflow.

Research Projects

Complete product design of the ‘Peucellier Printer’, a novel 3D printing apparatus. April 2014

• Designed a novel 4 DOF 3D printer inspired by an exact straight-line generating linkage. Used off-the-shelf components.

• Developed the CAD design in Solidworks, inverse kinematics equations & STL slicing code for a functional device.

Design and Construction of a Robotic Rover for a NASA-sponsored competition Sep 2013 – Apr 2014

• Designed and fabricated a wishbone suspension for a robotic ‘rover’ as a member of SUNY at Buffalo’s team

participating in the RASC-AL Robo-ops Mars Rover competition, organized by NASA.

• Conducted FEA in Abaqus to determine stress in dynamic and vibration loads (via modal analysis) on assembly members .

Innovative reciprocating air compressor (an individual, side-project) June 2012

• Prototyped a high-pressure reciprocating air compressor along with hydraulic schematics and valve connections.

• My design enables multiple compression ratios to be achieved from the same apparatus without changing the stroke.

• Constructed 2D sectional views and hydraulic designs in AutoCad. Also drafted a preliminary patent document.

• Used Ansys (FEA, thermal) to determine thermal strain on the device by conducting multiphase heat transfer analyses.

Maximizing power output of a wind-turbine rotor Nov 2013 – Dec 2013

• Computed the power coefficient for a 5kW windmill, numerically, in Matlab using the blade element moment theory.

• Validated the above with Ansys CFX simulations. Optimized the distribution of blade twist to maximize power output.

A Finite Element Solver for 2D analysis April 2014

• Developed a Matlab code to solve the 2D poisson’s equation using FEM for geometry meshed as a 3 -node CST element.

• The method is applied to a 2D section with an arbitrary, multiply connected contour to determine its torsion constant.

Relevant Coursework:

Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, Finite Element Analysis, CAD Applications, Engineering Analysis, Biomedical MEMS fabrication,

Wind Turbine Design & Modeling, Project Management, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (HVAC), Industrial Engineering and

Enterprise Resource Planning.
