Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, is a 1500 bedded multi-specialty tertiary referral centre situated in northern India. The institute is equipped with more than 35 operation theatres including a slot for pain management, multi-disciplinary ICU’s, radiology suites (CT & MRI), one modified Electroconvulsive therapy unit, one radiotherapy unit, pre-anesthetic work up clinic, pain clinic, providing state of the art free medical services to diverse population of north India. The Department of Anaesthesia and intensive care is the backbone of the institute catering to variety of demands from all the facilities and departments. The postgraduate teaching programs of the department is one of the finest in the country, and most sought after.

DETAILS OF POSTGRADUATE TRAINING

I joined the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care of PGIMER, Chandigarh in July 2011. During my stay in PGIMER, I have been able acquire technical skills in Anaesthesiology and Critical Care. As part of my post graduate training, I have been trained in providing anesthesia for patients presenting for elective and emergency surgical interventions from various surgical specialties under constant supervision of senior residents and eminent faculty, who used to take utmost effort and care to inculcate the right mix of clinical acumen and skills needed to manage these wide variety of patients posing various challenges.

The program has also provided me training in administering anesthesia for day care surgery, pediatric and adult endoscopies, and radiological interventions and modified electro convulsive therapy. I have also been trained in pain management strategies to deal with patients presenting both with acute (postoperative pain control and labour analgesia) and chronic pain.

THESIS – “Premedication with Midazolam-Dexmedetomidine Combination Versus Midazolam Alone in Pediatric Cataract Surgeries” as part of my postgraduate training programme. [Presented in international conference held in Cape Town, South Africa on Nov’14]

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS AND EXPERTISE

Invasive Blood Pressure monitoring

Central venous access- Internal jugular, Subclavian, Femoral and PICC.

Can handle ICU ventilators like Puritan Bennett 7200, Drager Evita-2 dura, Hamilton Galileo, Maquet Servo series and various newer modes of ventilation.

Ultrasound guided central venous and arterial line insertion

USG and Peripheral Nerve Stimulator guided regional nerve block techniques of both upper and lower limbs
