Curriculum Projects

Project Title : Design and Analysis of Accelerator Pedal with enhanced EEI

Place of Work: Ashok Leyland Pvt. Ltd, Ennore, Chennai.

Duration : Dec 2012 to Feb 2013

Description of the work

Modification of existing accelerator pedal with improved Ergonomy and Efforts Index was the objective of the project. At Ashok Leyland, I carried out this work taking Cheetah model truck of Ashok Leyland and modified the design of the accelerator pedal. FEM analysis was carried out to the new model which matched the performance of existing model. This modified design reduced the chances of misplacement of pedals as well as increased the driver’s comfort.

Project Title : Design and Analysis of H-Section Connecting Rod

Place of Work: VIT University, Vellore Campus.

Duration : July 2013 to Sep 2013

Description of the work

Solid modelling of connecting rod was done using Pro-E according to production drawing specification and analysis under the effect of tensile and compressive loads in terms of pressure was done using ANSYS Workbench. In general results of FEA, experimental results were similar (Maximum difference was only 7%) this shows accuracy of our modelling, meshing and loading. Deformation for the “H” section connecting rod is minimum when compared to other sections of connecting rod.

Project Title : CFD analysis of Plate fin heat sink with plate shield at various angles

Place of Work: VIT University, Vellore Campus.

Duration : Dec 2013 to March 2014

Description of the work

Solid modelling of the plate fin and shield assembly was done using Pro-E and the numerical investigation of the effect of an inclined shield on the thermal and hydraulic performance of a plate-fin heat sink undergoing cross-flow was done using ICEM CFD and CFX, the pressure drop for various inclination angles of the plate shield is small and diverge slightly at small Reynolds number (Re=10,000), but increases rapidly and diverges substantially with increasing Reynolds number. Regarding a compromise between thermal resistance and flow power, θ=90 is a superior choice.

Project Title : Bearing and Gear fault detection methodologies using AI techniques

Place of Work: VIT University, Vellore Campus.

Duration : July 2014 to April 2015

Description of the work

This project belongs to an area termed as Condition Monitoring, the mechanical components are monitored and maintained, and thus a system can be prevented from failure. The bearing and gear are important components which need effective maintenance, the vibrations produced by the components are acquired using an accelerometer and converted to data using DAQ system. These signals were examined using various feature extraction (EMD, Wavelet, FFT) and classification techniques (SVM, ANN, C 4.5). By fixing the normal component as base normal class, the defected components are classified using classifiers.

Extra Curricular Activities
