Professional Experience

Administrative Resident, Jeanes Hospital 05/2014 - present (TEMPLE UNIVERSITY HEALTH SYSTEM)

Responsible for process improvement projects based on Lean Six Sigma methodology in Radiology, Cardiology and Emergency Departments. Evaluated revenue, reimbursement and proposed staffing models, workflow and business opportunities for each department.

Team leader for five CATH laboratory technologists charged with resolving poor inventory management to reduce inventory loss. I designed a new inventory system using 5S and DMAIC models of Lean methodology; proposed and obtained approval from CEO for a new inventory coordinator position, with projected savings of $100,000 in inventory expenses.

Project leader for identifying new business opportunities for Radiology department to increase the revenue and improve the workflow efficiency. I coordinated a ten-member team consisting of six MRI and CT technologists, two managers and two directors from Radiology department. I performed value stream mapping and used fish bone diagram of Lean methodology to analyze the workflow. I also applied financial modeling to analyze the staffing costs in parallel with inpatient and outpatient volumes for MRI and CT laboratory services. I proposed a business plan to the senior leadership team and obtained approval for hiring additional four technologists to extend MRI services during weekend periods to meet outpatients’ needs with estimated monthly revenue increase of $50,000.

As head of a process improvement project with Emergency Department staff, including physicians and in-charge nurses, I mapped out the ED throughput process and identified the root cause for delay in transporting patients from ER to the nursing units. Delay in delivering patients’ reports and transportation time were impacting the ED throughput. I applied value-mapping process, DMAIC model, Spaghetti diagram of Lean methodology and intensive statistical analysis of the data extracted from Medhost, Bedready to clearly understand the ED throughput. Based on this analysis, I designed a Lean plan and presented to the senior leadership team to improve ED throughput. Implementation of this plan reduced patient transport time from one hour to thirty minutes.

Working closely with physicians’ practice managers on pre-certification protocols, I led strategic planning for Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) department to minimize the reimbursement loss. As a result, the PAT department’s loss was significantly reduced with monthly estimated gain of $100,000.

Utilizing financial modeling to understand Medicare, Medicaid reimbursement, I provided support to the decision making of senior leadership team, including CFO, in contracts negotiation with the payers.
