EXPERIENCE

12/2009 - present: Aerospace Engineer

Triton Aerospace LLC

(813 2nd street, La Conner WA 98257).

Held multiple positions:

o Aircraft design engineer

Guided the modification of the structure and control systems of the existing FAR 23 normal category certified airplane to reduce structural weight, by using CAD design software and finite element analysis.

Participated in preliminary designs of business class twin piston, twin turboprop, single turboprop and LAAR aircraft.

Created Certification documentation. Updated Project Specific Certification Plan

(PSCP) for FAR 23 normal category aircraft.

ILIA ARTEMIDZE 2

Created CAD drawings, surface models, and structure models of airplanes by using Siemens NX software.

Performed stability and control analysis using DATCOM methods.

Developed a new empennage design, wing-fuselage joint and nose landing gear retracting mechanism for push-pull, twin piston engine aircraft.

Interfaced with chief engineer and program managers in planning and scheduling projects.

Provided leadership and mentorship to other design engineers. o Structural engineer

Guided product design and verified structural integrity of composite and metal primary structures by using analytical methods and finite element models/simulations in NX Femap with Nastran

Investigated failures during static and fatigue test and analyzed improvements.

Guided repair design of failed or damaged structures.

Generated fatigue spectrum for empennage and created static and fatigue test plan.

Created external loads report by MS Excel based FAR 23 Loads software. o Test engineer

Performed landing gear drop tests to determine and reduce LG load factor.

Developed data acquisition software using Labview.

Managed the lab setup and operation for composite material manufacturing process qualification tests.

Performed HT static and fatigue test in parallel with the design process.

Managed Composite material equivalency and composite stringer reinforced panel development tests.

Accomplishments

Designed, prepared for testing: aircraft horizontal tail, stringer reinforced test articles, and landing gear.

Achieved reduction of load factor for nose landing gear by redesigning energy absorption device and verifying by drop test.

Significantly Reduced the weight of airframe by optimizing the composite structure.

Improved manufacturing process time of test coupons by implementing new machining technologies and optimizing fixtures.

Developed a new lightweight horizontal tail structure which was manufactured utilizing fully co-cured technology

Developed new DAQ software to acquire strain data on multiple structural tests.

09/2002 - 11/2009: Aerospace Engineer

JSC TAM - Tbilisi Aircraft Manufacturing

(B. Khmelnitsky 181, Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia 0136 ) Held Multiple positions:

o Mechanical engineer

Designed composite and metal aircraft structures using CATIA V5 software. ILIA ARTEMIDZE 3

Prepared CAD surface models for composite tools. Worked on the certification of the normal category airplane per CFR part 23.

Held a key role in the implementation of composite airframe production.

Worked on Soviet attack aircraft SU-25 "Frogfoot" modernization program. o Structural analysis engineer:

Performed stress and structural analysis of composite and metal primary structures utilizing Nastran, Patran and Femap.

Made aerodynamic analysis using CFD software (Flowizard, Fluent) o Program Manager (2005-2006)

Managed reconnaissance UAV program.

Recruited and trained the UAV team, conducting training in other countries.

Ensured they had excellent theoretical and practical knowledge of UAV which they later successfully used in actual combat.

Accomplishments

Designed and prepared drawings for production of: aircraft door and locking system, jet engine nacelles, Jet engine mount, windshield, Horizontal Tail Structure, Flap Control Mechanism.

Acquired significant experience in airplane design, manufacture, and build.

While still a university student, I was given supervisory responsibility for a key assembly process of the first prototype twin-jet, four-seat aircraft in the Republic of Georgia.

Developed a new calculation app for aerodynamic parameters which significantly reduced the time required to develop the preliminary design of several projects.

Organized, equipped, and trained the initial cadre that successfully operated the Georgian armed forces' UAVs.

11/2004 - 05/2005: Mechanical Engineer

Epic Air LLC (22590 Nelson Road, Bend Oregon 97701)

Joined engineering team from JSC TAM, to develop a twin-jet business class aircraft.

Worked on new empennage design, using CATIA V5 software.

Performed HT composite structure structural analysis using MSC Patran and Nastran.

Accomplishments

The results obtained during this design process were later used to build first prototype aircraft.
