PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Arizona State Phoenix, AZ June 2014-Present

Physical Plant Operations Administrator

Project Manager, Construction Manager and Facilities Director

Serving as Project Manager, Construction Manager and Facilities Director, this role involves directing the full range of physical plant services for a State Prison and 50 other facilities for a total of 1M in square footage. As more of a privateer minded work personality, requiring the shrewdest resource allocation, including that of human capital, within the normal constraints of the governmental arena. Manage a staff of 75, with 7-9 supervisors and subcontractors, that are sometimes over-extended. Provide them with learning and growth opportunities that build morale and improve performance.

There is a heavy emphasis on project management in my position, and a track record of meeting aggressive benchmarks and milestones has been tested with continued success. By using an entrepreneurial approach, and functioning similarly to those in start-up settings, managing emergencies, trying hard to advocate for proactive measures in the absence of preventative maintenance programs, and balancing multiple competing priorities while making critical decisions under the gun. Work is diverse enough to include design, security, sewage and underground wells.

Despite several ongoing challenges, and receiving commendations for meeting timelines, staying within budget and surpassing expectations. Managing tight budgets while cutting costs, and keeping safety and compliance records spotless characterize contributions, more of which include:

By own initiative, undertook $1M prison halogen security and yard light LED replacement to obtain $350K rebate incentive and utility savings of 250K per year.

Saved a projected $100K per year through preventative maintenance endeavors.

Completed $40M ground-up maximum security section build with applied value engineering, fitting 36 more cells than anticipated, and mitigating future expansion needs.
