Dell Inc., Lebanon, TN (9/2001 – 4/2007)

Engineering Technician/Specialist and Quality Specialist

This job was mainly damage reduction efforts and supplier support in the Failure Verification Lab. With the aid of Excel Pivot Tables & Filtering, DPM Calculations, SPC and ABC Analysis:

Proved that certain connector damage to hard drives and optical drives was being caused in the lab by supplier representatives. This involved taking before & after pictures, building a business case and making a presentation

Established insertion scratches on memory modules to be natural and not process induced damage

Stopped parts from being knocked from totes by tying up loose cables on the production line

Identified certain hard drive packaging as being out of specification (too tight) causing the whole box to be pulled to the production line, when picked by an associate, creating quality problems and a safety hazard

Conceived, wrote, implemented and enforced 5S guidelines to be used in the Failure Verification Lab

Ordered supplies and built test systems for minor repair and testing for microprocessors (CPUs) damaged in the production process. $200 cost/each x 480 each/week(avg.) x 52 weeks/year x 2.5 years = $12,480,000 (savings)

Conceived and implemented an inspection process to prevent CPUs damaged in the Cancelled Order Disassembly area from being reused before repair. Same calculation as above only 40 each/week = $1,040,000 (savings)

Identified ‘Single Bent Pin’ issue on CPUs helping Dell get a $1,000,000/year allotment from the supplier

Numerous other accomplishments that will be discussed in detail as deemed necessary
