Census crew leaders meet with their staff members, typically called enumerators. Crew leaders take the fingerprints of

each crew member, package them, and ship them to a national census office for screening. The crew leader swears in

the new census employees and checks two forms of identification to verify the employees' right to work in the United

States. The crew leader accompanies the enumerators and watches as they complete a portion of their assigned tasks.

Crew leaders observe how the enumerators interact with respondents, how well they follow procedures, and whether

they understand the task. The crew leader then will complete an evaluation form and submit it to the local census office.
