• Spent one year with VSP, Inc. in Rancho Cordova, CA managing the transition of their Consumer system

from DB2 on a zOS mainframe to DB2_LUW (Linux) in a Pure Scale environment. I also worked on several

other major mainframe to distributed migration projects.

• Coordinated vendor communications between JDA and IKEA and Implemented testing & QA procedures for

the implementation of the JDA Intactix Merchandise planning systems at IKEA corporate headquarter in

Sweden.

• Resolved communications issues between a Texas based Travel Club and their outsourced web developers in

India. Established local requirements, testing, and acceptance procedures.

• Introduced EGL (Enterprise Generation Language) for IBM to the IBM i (iSeries) market and grew the

market from zero to over 2500 customers in 4 years.

• Introduced new cross platform line of development tools: Rational Developer for Power (RDP) to replace

older toolsets negatively affected by system packaging.

• Implemented procedures in less than 3 months necessary to remediate and pass a failed Sarbanes-Oxley audit

and insure compliance on an ongoing basis.

• Wrote white paper for IBM: “IT Responses to Sarbanes Oxley”

• Managed design and implemented one of the first commercial insurance customer service applications.

• Managed the design and implementation of one of the first commercial insurance self-service insurance

application processing web applications.

• Moved a company from dependence on RPG & COBOL based technology to Java using web-based

technology leveraging WebSphere Portal Server.

• Moved from a 5250 “Green Screen” based system to a web based system fully integrated with worldwide

services.

• Implemented an enterprise wide document management system integrated with the corporate ERP and

leveraging outsourced labor to provide 24 x 7 operations.

• Guided modernization initiatives to insure that the company was platform independent and could move to

other platforms when and if the vendor dropped support for the platform.

• Implemented cloud based open-source software solutions for a software company specializing in churches,

synagogues, and other non-profit organizations.

• Managed the design, development, and implementation of 3 separate enterprise wide ERP systems for three

Fortune 100 insurance companies.

Company performs enterprise assessments of current computer systems, methodologies, IT staff, with an eye towards

determining how well current business requirements are being met. The assessment is followed up with specific

recommendations for the specific client enterprise to regain control over their computer systems. Each study produces

unique results for the specific client. Clients include IKEA (Helsingborg, Sweden, World Ventures, Dallas, Texas).

Most recently, I have worked with VSP, Inc. In Rancho Cordova, CA spearheading an initiative to move their DB2

zOS database from the mainframe to a distributed DB2 LUW Pure Scale environment and migrate applications from a

legacy mainframe to modern REST based architecture.

Worldwide Market Manager, IBM Rational Tools for IBM i, Raleigh, NC – May 2005 to June 2009

Responsible for introducing new tools into the IBM i (iSeries, AS/400) community and driving new business

requirements. Introduced IBM’s Enterprise Generation Language (EGL) product and grew the market from zero to

over 2500 customers. Portfolio was valued at over $90 M in 2009. – Retired.

Vice President and CTO, Republic Indemnity Company of America, Encino, CA – 1990 to 2005

Managed the design and development of an enterprise wide system to handle all enterprise wide business processing.

Introduce first commercial insurance web based customer service application. Introduced first commercial insurance

on-line web based sales tool. Implemented migration and modernization plan to move systems from RPG & COBOL

to Java and from 5250 “Green Screen” to interactive web based applications integrating remote services with locally

developed applications. Implemented methodologies, software, and controls to pass the first Sarbanes Oxley audit for

the company. Helped to form and drive executive IT steering committee, facilitated annual planning sessions with key

business executives and units. Developed budgets and worked with business community to prioritize all projects and

maintenance activities.

Vice President Insurance Systems, Fremont Compensation Insurance Company, Glendale, CA 1978 to 1990

Managed the design and implementation of enterprise wide computer systems pioneering relational database, IBM

CICS based On-line systems, utilizing techniques pioneered by James Martin and implementing new methodologies

for corporate systems design. Implemented rigorous development, testing, and change management methodologies.
