Handi Capable Hands – Indianapolis, IN 2012 – 2015

Handi Capable Hands (HCH) was an integrated workshop for adults with developmental disabilities. My

responsibilities included recruiting new individuals (called Associates) for the program. Individuals with Down’s

syndrome, Autism, and Asperger’s Syndrome, (verbal and non verbal) were our target population. Evaluated the

Associates abilities for the workshop tasks. Associates disabilities ranged from mild to severe.

1. Collaborated with NISH organization through federal government to ensure HCH was in compliance with

OSHA and Department of Labor. As the speaker for service organizations (Rotary, Power Circle, Kiwanis,

Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce and Character Councils) I educated organizations about HCH and the

programs offered. Worked with RISE Learning Center, Franklin Central High School, Roncalli and

Lutheran High Schools special education departments to ensure a smooth transition for students from high

school to the sheltered workshop world.

2. Responsible for securing booths and attending various fairs, expos and conferences.

3. HCH partnered with Global Peace Initiatives developing a product called Magic Sprout. Position ended due

to loss of funding.

Key Contributions and Achievements.

• Secured donation for the purchase of an Automatic External Defibrillator for center.

• Authored policy manual and job descriptions for employees.

• Responsible for accounts receivable and accounts payable.

• Recruited 19 new associates for the center over a two year period.

• Authored monthly newsletter and created news releases.

• Designed program with staff to monitor inputs and outcomes of associates.

• Created and secured coaches for Life Skills program in the areas of nutrition and drama.

Franklin Township Education Foundation, Indianapolis, IN 2007 – 2011

Managed all aspects of foundation’s activities including accounting, fundraising, and event planning. Created,

planned and implemented special events, solicited new donors, developed corporate giving program, researched and

wrote grants. Created and submitted all news and public relations releases. Modernized strategies for foundation’s

mission, vision and core values to be presented to the community and schools.

Muscular Dystrophy Family Foundation, Indianapolis, IN 1994 – 2006

Responsible for day to day operations of non profit health agency serving individuals and families affected by

neuromuscular disease. Increased agency identity on a national level. Developed grief counseling program for

families. Was face of the organization for national public speaking engagements, television and radio appearances.

Managed financial and fundraising guidelines for multi state compliance. Formulated and implemented successful

marketing and public relations strategies.

1. Recruited and trained volunteers and Board of Directors in fundraising and program development.

2. Created successful bereavement workshops and workshop materials for groups and hospice centers.

3. Facilitated the hiring, training and management of four staff members as well as two medical

physicians, nurse and genetics counselor.
