program for the Commonwealth of PA. In August, 2003, Act 21, Civil
Commitment Program for Juveniles was signed into law. Under the law,
individuals aging out of adjudicated custody for sexual offenses could be
civilly committed by a Pennsylvania court for having a "mental abnormality
and /or personality disorder which results in serious difficulty in
controlling sexually violent behavior".
Responsibilities include serving as an active member of multidisciplinary
treatment teams, evaluating and assessing new residents, and providing
counseling, treatment, court testimony (recognized by courts as expert
witness) and psycho educational services.
Position also assists in provision of services for residents and training
for clinical and non-clinical staff in the areas of cognitive behavioral
sex offender treatment, relapse prevention, anger management, communication
skills, individual and group therapy.
In this position I provided consultation to Pennsylvania State Mental
Hospitals for sexual offender / deviance issues and other mental health
issues, as well as the development of the program.
