EMPLOYMENT EXPERIENCE:

1. Teledyne Brown Engineering - Huntsville, AL - Oct 2012 to present

TITLE: Senior Systems and Mechanical Engineer

Spent the first year or so working on a new LOX/Methane vehicle, SWORDS,

to bring small payloads to LEO. Using Pro-E, provided/refined

preliminary design of MGSE, propellant tanks and the vehicle interfaces

for umbilicals, launch stanchions and hard point handling interfaces.

Partnered with NASA, primarily KSC, on this Army support contract.

In Spring of 2014, began supporting Design on the Space Launch

System (SLS) Launch Vehicle Stage Adapter (LVSA). Developed build flow

and methods to handle large weldments during Friction Stir Welding (FSW)

at MSFC. Designed Ground Support Equipment (GSE) and production support

equipment.

At Christmas 2014, took on the Environmental Control System (ECS)

Quick Disconnect (QD) and duct, as well as the Hazardous Gas

Detection/monitoring System (HGDS) tubing in the LVSA. Investigated vendors

for the ECS duct and coordinated with KSC GDSO to develop ICD requirements

for the umbilical connections to LVSA.

2. ERC Inc. ESTS Group Jacobs Technology - MSFC, Huntsville, AL - Sept

2000 to Aug 2012

TITLE: Senior Mechanical Engineer

Hired for my experience with International Space Station (ISS), fluid

components and distribution design, such as: Fluid Systems Servicer (FSS),

Vacuum Access System (VAS), Air Revitalization System (ARS) the Urine

Processor Assembly (UPA), and Thermal Control Systems (TCS) components.

Worked on ECLSS before transferring to the Material Science Research Rack

(MSRR) project from 2001-2009. Then, I worked on conceptual design of in-

space vehicles in the MSFC Advanced Concepts Office (ACO) for 4 years as a

structural/stress analyst.

a.) Advanced Concepts Office (ACO) Structural Analyst. Transferred to

ACO to train as a structural analyst for low Technology Readiness Level

(TRL) concepts, while still supporting the MSRR program (1.b below).

Supported the In-space design team and contributed to several conceptual

vehicle design concepts supporting NASA's Decadal Survey, such as the Z-

pinch (pub.20-23) fusion propulsion study and continued to write and

publish technicaI papers and presentations on Z-pinch that contributed to

the establishment of a Z-pinch fusion experimentation program involving

UAH, MSFC, Boeing and other partners at RSA. I analyzed composite

construction concepts for the Ares V intertank segment on a agency-wide

Advanced Composites Technology (ACT) Team. Recently, I worked on ECLSS for

the Deep Space Habitat, a couple of solar sail studies, and analyzed all

manner of terrestrial solar power generation to make an assessment of the

potential market for solar power satellites. (pub. 24-25)

b.) Material Science Research Rack (MSRR-1) Design Engineer, Task Lead.

Feb 2001 to Sept 2010. Flight hardware acceptance review completed Jan 30,

2008. MSRR-1 rack successfully commissioned on-orbit in ISS Oct 2009.

Sixteen experiments flawlessly completed in 2009-11. I was the WBS manager

for the MSRR-1 Vacuum Access System (VAS) and Experiment Carrier (EC)

Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE and also supported structural

design and Thermal & Environmental Control Systems (TECS). I designed and

supported the fabrication of MSRR-1 VAS vacuum line routing and hardware,

including tubing, fittings, sensors, valves, etc. The task also required a

dozen MGSE hardware assemblies and completion of all of the verification

for the VAS & MGSE. I took over task lead duties in 2003 and have managed

1-3 engineers and worked with 6 different NASA customers. I have much

experience with the MSFC drawing/document release, Engineering Change

Request (ECR), requirements, compliance, and verification systems. I picked

up structural design support in 2005 and after test and hardware failures,

re-designed much of the TECS hardware for MSRR-1. I developed fluid

component and system test plans for functional, proof, and leak tests.

c.) Advanced Docking and Berthing System (ADBS) Project Management and

Design support. Task ran 2004 through 2006 with the delivery of over 35

CAD models, manufacturing drawings, as well as four full sets of fabricated

prototype hardware. Four lockdown assemblies for the Crew Exploration

Vehicle (CEV) ADBS project were partially assembled, fully fit-checked for

all of the MSFC fabricated parts. (pub. 16) The scope was originally for

CAD drawings only from a preliminary design. By developing the design

maturity, I convinced JSC to increase the scope of the TTA for $100K of

fabrication work for the MSFC Fabrication Facility.

d.) Delta Qualification (DQ) testing of ISS Quick Disconnects (QD). 2006-

07. Following another engineer's work, I developed a plan & managed a DQ

program for a dozen MSRR-1 QDs. I successfully marketed MSFC to Glenn

Research Center (GRC) as a facility to perform DQ for ISS QDs for another

payload rack. This work was performed on a TTA I developed with GRC.

f.) Spaceflight Holography Investigation in a Virtual Apparatus (SHIVA)

Design support. 2002-03. Managed and mentored one engineer to develop CAD

models and drawings for a mechanism to facilitate the SHIVA experiment,

proposed a novel design utilizing microgravity fluid flow that led to

successful ground hardware development and testing. (pub. 14)

3. The Boeing Company - Kent, WA and Huntsville, AL - Sept 1986 to Sept

2000.

a. Boeing Space & Communications Group - Huntsville, AL - Sept. 1988 to

Sept 2000.

TITLES: Product Management Specialist, Equipment Manager (Technical

Subcontracts), Sr. Environmental Design Engineer, International Space

Station (ISS) Program

I managed multiple technical subcontracts for ISS and delivered over 40

pieces of space hardware that was launched in 2000 and 2001. Performed

ECLSS system design and trade studies for fluid systems: urine and water

processing, ECLSS mass balance, water and CO2 vents, leak detection, water

quality monitoring, waste management, and atmosphere sampling. I've

produced several trade studies, and accomplished component selection and

failure analysis on many electromechanical and fluid components. I was

assigned to manage the design and procurement of the ISS Fluid Systems

Servicer (FSS). I worked with international partners from Japan and Europe

and personnel from NASA centers across the country on several ISS products.

Represented Boeing at many conferences and authored/coauthored many papers,

(pub. (1-12) mostly related to ECLSS design. In 1994, I took a sabbatical

for graduate research to pursue a concept to create mixed-monomer silane

Self Assembled Monolayers (SAM)s. This molecular microstructure was

designed to prevent microbial growth to protect potable water supplies in

titanium water lines. (pub 9)

b. Boeing Electronics - Kent, WA - Sept 86 to Sept 88

TITLE: Equipment Engineer, Manufacturing/Facilities Engineer (PCBO &

Microelec. Shop),

Specified and procured capital process equipment for in the Printed Circuit

Board Operations & Microelectronics Shop, interfacing with Manufacturing

and Design. Recognized as trouble-shooter & clean room expert effecting

process improvement, flow time reduction, & re-work reduction. Aided in the

successful MIL 1772 certification of the Hybrid Microelectronics
