-Monitor controls and enter hourly log readings.

-Ensure the safe and efficient operation of the unit.

-Take action in the event of emergency.

-Inform shift supervisor of any impending problem or abnormal condition.

-Record defects and make note of repair work and adjustment carried out by maintenance personnel.

-Perform switching operation on instruction from system controller / shift supervisor.

-Give instructions to plant operators.

-Assist in giving hands-on training to controllers in training.

-Perform hydrostatic test on boiler.

-Floating of safety valves.

-Carry out system backwash on condensers.

-Compute mid-night production figures.

-Prepare shift report.

1991-2000 : Plant Operator

Jamaica Public Service Company Ltd.

Worked as a Plant Operator on units with GE and Parsons Turbines and

boilers from Foster Wheeler and Bailey.

I also worked as a Gas Turbine Operator for a short time--two months.

Duties Performed Include:

-Starting and stopping auxiliary equipment on instruction from Controller/ Supervisor.

-Bringing up boiler from cold to operating parameters

-Running up turbine from cold to full speed.

-Ensure running equipment are operated safely and efficiently.

-Test standby equipment

-Purge Hydrogen cooled generator.

-Monitor and record data for turbine and boiler.

-Monitor transfer of fuel oil from petroleum company.

-Sootblow boiler.

-Collecting and testing boiler water sample.

-Clean fuel oil strainers.

-Replace leaking gaskets.

-Lubricate bearings and make adjustment to leaking pump gland.

-Assist shift supervisor and controller in trouble shooting.

-Take actions in the event of emergency.

-Interlock and isolate high voltage equipment(4.16kv)..

-Assist in giving hands-on training to trainee operators.
