Led the design, development, including QA and UAT phases, for the implementation of a new MQ connectivity to the CMPP application, including the definition of new MQ channels and remote queues. Also modified programs to allow for messages to be routed to the new queue and the creation of a BAM alert message.

Developed new background CICS transactions to start and drain a queue based on criteria and timed events. Assisted in the correction of several production defects, for which analysis, technical design, reviews, testing, and assignment to implementation releases, were conducted. Humana One Administration Team:

Revamped complex COBOL program generating automatic enrollment transactions by adding lots of new functionality and making it more efficient, e.g. reducing the number of writes from 27 to 3.

Improved SQL queries to reduce the execution time for the AE application by several hours. Reduced turnaround time for defects from 2 weeks to a maximum of 3 days.

Assisted in the design and maintenance of several critical DB2 tables used in the AE application with the intent of improving their efficiency.

Participated in several development efforts, including enhancements to implement new products, which resulted in faster expedition of AE processes and improved membership.

Cigna Administration Team:

Developed a data feed for this client to populate their data warehouse. The feed was derived from several DB2 tables containing administration data and was transmitted to the client via FTP. Application ran in a couple of minutes even after accessing high volume tables.

Accomplishments:

Information Systems Group Team:

Wrote several VSAM to DB2 conversion COBOL programs that improved the overall reporting to brokers and resulted in a 15% reduction in missed license exams.

Assisted in the design and development to an existing broker exam notification process and improved it by adding a feature, using Lotus Notes, which took exam notices created via a daily batch job and automatically distributed them. This process improvement resulted in a major reduction in the number of complaints from brokers.

As lead programmer, developed and implemented a process that validated the licensing requirements of international brokers and produced a report listing those missing any. This resulted in 12% increase on exams attendance and a noticeable reduction on the number of exams missed by the brokers.

As software engineer for the Finance Systems team, maintained a number of critical batch and online applications dealing with the calculation, payment and distribution of commissions to brokers and providers selling Cigna business.

As lead systems designer for the Underwriting Systems team, supported a three-tier client/server application that allowed underwriters to keep track of their assigned accounts. This application consisted of a GUI front-end developed using VB 4.0, a CICS Client middleware module that enabled access to the mainframe, and several Cobol/DB2 modules with underwriting account tracking mechanisms and access to a DB2 database.

Finance Systems Team:

Assisted with the maintenance and support of a highly complex commission’s engine.

Participated on a daily basis in the trouble-shooting and problem resolution of complaints generated by brokers. During my tenure in this team I was able to reduce the number of missing payments complaints by brokers by a robust 8% based on calculations and process improvements.
