As a Metallurgical Technician, I am responsible for inspecting and sorting sheet steel samples. I

also cut tensile samples and test hardness using Wilson hardness testers, 150 ton and 175 ton

punch presses.

Structural Inspector at US Steel G.L.W.

I serve as the first line of defense in the protection of life, limb and property in the event of a

failure. I engage in hands on Structural Inspections for overhead cranes and crane runways. I

also inspect steel buildings, roof trusses, storage tanks, gas mains, and hi lines in a steel mill

environment. I use man lifts while physically boarding cranes and walking runways with lifeline

rail skates that identify areas of critical deficiencies that can arise. I also use Bore Scopes to

complete Non-Destructive Testing. It is my duty to respectfully report accurate findings to the

Metallurgical Technician

04/2002 to 05/2009

As a Metallurgical Technician, I inspected and tested steel, cast iron, brass, copper, aluminum

and titanium base alloys as well as sheet steels using marvel band saws to cut test samples and

fractures. I used micrometers, calipers, height gauges, optical comparators, and an Instron

Impact Tester to test metal samples and check specific ASTM Standards. I machined, sanded

and prepped samples for Metallurgical, Rockwell, and Brinell Hardness Testing. I also performed

hardness tests and hot and cold mounted metallurgical samples. I used Dye Penetrant and

Magnetic Particle to check samples for cracks and fractures. I have also heat treated and

tempered steel to customers speculations. I was in charge of Department Ordering of supplies

and Inventory of Departments Supplies. I also was in charge of Shipping and the return of all

customers samples. My position included Flat and Round Tensile Prep, a H-13 Steel

Certification, Assistant Supervisor, Forklift Certified Trainer, Machine Maintenance, and Impact

Grinding.

I was able to do Inventory Control and I used a 30 ton overhead crane to load trucks and pull

orders of bar stock. I used a band saw to cut steel to customer’s standards, operated L.P. gas

fork lifts to move steel bars and move inventory. I also prepped and performed Brinell Hardness

testing on Steel Samples.
