• Team leader of 14 professionals for industry-leading carrier on America's inland waterways with

2000 operational, 250 administrative and 250 production/repair employees.

• Reduced number of open claims 20% by modifying work schedules, reorganizing geographic

territory and introducing settlement authority thresholds.

• Revamped illness claim processing effectively minimizing HIPAA, ADA and other legal risks.

2005 – 2013

VICE PRESIDENT – SAFETY & HUMAN RESOURCES

• Played key role in development of a safety culture. Reduced frequency and severity of property

incidents; recordable incident rates of 9.0 to 1.3; overboard incidents from 20 annually to 0-5; and

environmental incidents from 50 to 10/year. Savings per annum totaled millions of dollars.

• Developed partnership with Vanderbilt University to provide medical, wellness and sleep disorder

services that lead to biometrics and sleep efficiency improvements and 100% applicant success

rate for U.S. Coast Guard license medical credentialing.

• As Chairman of Industry Work Group and Transportation Research Board Advisory Panel

collaborating with Northwestern University, reached agreement with US Coast Guard to address

NTSB fatigue recommendations via safety systems approach as opposed to Hours of Service

regulations.

• Designed and integrated a simulation training facility used for onboarding, safety and technical

training. This state of the art asset also used for customer and US Coast Guard safety training.

• Developed an internal auditing and deficiency correction protocol to ensure adherence with

established safety systems and coordinated vendor audits with external auditing resources. Over

275 individual site audits conducted annually with team of 7 auditors.

• Transitioned incident and near-miss investigation and correction process from blame to learning

centered resulting in 50% increase in near-miss reporting.

VICE PRESIDENT -- HUMAN RESOURCES

• Helped integrate a workforce of an acquired company, 60% represented by three unions, into a

same-sized non-union population with zero work disruptions. Ingram doubled in size.

• Instituted housing facilities transferring sleeping, meals and recreation from harsh operating

environments resulting in reduction in attrition metrics (20%) and injuries (50%).

• Conducted diversity and anti-harassment training, reducing significant time, money and energy

spent on EEOC investigations, mediations and settlements.

• Designed program and supported team delivering leadership development and career planning

for high potentials preparing them for increasing safety regulation and workforce diversification.

ASSISTANT VICE PRESIDENT -- HUMAN RESOURCES

• Developed supervisory training that reduced risk of unionization following successful defense of

organizing campaign resulting in NLRB ruling maintaining supervisory status of key employees.

• Implemented new recruiting strategy, pay practices and safety incentives to gain competitive

• Executed strategy to align annual incentive programs with key business goals and gain increased

buy in from employees; gained a 15% improvement in satisfaction rating on semi-annual surveys.
