process and solutions to bring higher profits to the corporation and better qualities to the customers alike.

Education

Master of Engineering in Chemical Engineering June, 2012

The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art New York, NY

- Overall GPA:3.5/4.0 (ME-BE combined) 3.75/4.0 (ME alone)

- Full-tuition scholarship (2009-2012)

- Recipient of Ender’s Scholarship

Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering June, 2009

The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art New York, NY

- Overall GPA: 3.4/4.0 (BE alone)

- Full-tuition scholarship (2005-2009)

Relevant Experience

1. Hanwha Chemical Research and Development Center May, 2013 ~ Current

Senior R&D Engineer (Polysilicon R&D Group) South Korea

1) Increase purification columns' efficiency: columns were studied to minimize utility consumption.

- Target columns were simulated to approximate maximum utility reduction points.

- Based on the simulation, reflux tests are in progress to optimize utility usage while retaining operational safety and

product purity. So far, test result predicts each of selected 4 purification units' utility consumption down to 25% of

what the current driving method required.

2) Debottleneck the current polysilicon production plant: ensure operational safety and reduce economical lose.

-Suggested two major modifications to the system and aided in applying these changes- hydrogen compressor's

hunting prevention by installing inlet gas temperature control, reducing off gas compressor work load by

increasing phase separation efficiency before it fed to the compressor-which increased operational safety and

lowered costs $0.1/kg-product less than the original design.

3) Published an executive report on novel off gas recovery system: showed benefits of this new implication.

- Designed novel off gas recovery system which guarantees reduction of production costs by 50%.

- P&ID packages for both lab and pilot scale processes were constructed.

- Relating patents were published to ensure intellectual property protection and possibly bring more revenues to the

company by selling the technology.

4) Develop a novel method to lower production costs by 75%

- Constructed technical report on the new method which involves Reactive Distillation Column. Working to publish

the relating patents.

2. Café Bench (Creperie and Coffee) October 2011 ~ April 2013

Co-founder/Manager Flushing, NY

1) Built overall concept, including space and identity of the business.

- Based on extensive market research, successfully established a business with unique identity which generates stable

profits.

2) Assisted in overseeing cash flow.

- Kept track of influx of income and payments to monitor growth of the business.

- Based on the financial data collected, appropriate adjustment on product prices and sales items were modified.

3) Took charge in training new employees to provide high quality services to the customers.

- To normalize quality of coffee and crepe serves, hired employees were trained and educated.

3. Ethicon, a Johnson and Johnson Company June 2010 ~ August 2010

College Co-Op (Antimicrobial Suture Team) Somervile, NJ

1) As an Antimicrobial technologies team member developed a product to broaden business spectrum.

- Designed and conducted experiments to develop antimicrobial active nylon sutures to reduce surgical site infection.

The project was aimed to produce more cost-friendly products with higher tensile strength which will expand the

company’s available suture product spectrum for the customers to choose from.

2)Investigated more effective production method. Additional studied conducted to minimize antimicrobial

suture’s triclosan dependency in the future.

- Proved the existing method is the most effective even for the novel suture product.

- Revealed other antimicrobial agent options which will grant more freedom when selecting antimicrobial agent

benders.

Research experiences at Cooper Union

1. Micro-Reactor: Kinetics of Methylcaetate Synthesis Fall 2010 ~ May 2012

- Investigate reaction kinetics for methylacetate synthesis using micro-reactor and design series of experiments to

understand the effects of having micro reactor system in methyl acetate synthesis and to explain the cause of rapid

synthesis. The experiment involved selection of optimal mechanical parts which would be acid resistance while able

to enable the user to control small amount of solutions precisely.

- By publishing thesis, change in reaction order, UNIFAC activity coefficients, and reaction rate constants due to the

implement of a micro reactor at varying flow rates were reported along with possible explanations for the phenomena

. - Suggest a method to apply micro reaction technology better in the field of industry or what other studies that need

to be done to modify the system to accommodate the current industry’s requirements

2. Construction of a Petrochemical Plant Using PROII Fall and Spring 2009

- Construct a working petrochemical plant based on the given equipment specification, product specification and heat

& material balances using PROII with a team environment.

- The project involved simulating appropriate heat exchanger and reboilers based on energy/heat requirements for the

overall process. Also, based on the product specification, for example product purity and the amount that it needs to

be processed, feed and recycle processes were designed.

- At the end of project after constructing a working and efficient petrochemical plant comprehensive report on

the plant was devised which included detailed description on of how the plant would be running with flow charts and

economic analysis on costs of running and installing the plant and rate of return by selling the generated products.

A

3. Prevention of HIV: Study in Enzymatic Kinetics 2008 - 2009

- Propose the method to determine the kinetics of de-phosphorylation of DNA synthesis which could be used to

prevent HIV

- Identified kinetics of de-phosphorylation of benzene phosphate with various enzymes using UV spectrometer.

4. Hazard Analysis for Public Health Spring 2008

- Detected trace of carcinogen in popular soft drinks which may violate FDA regulation by employing mass

spectrometer.

- Found carcinogen, benzene, and the circumstance that triggers the formation of benzene were reported at the end of

the project.
