• Design & detailing of R.C.C; Steel & Prestressed Concrete bridges.

Bhilai Steel Plant, India March 1963 to October 1999

Worked at various positions in Bhilai Steel Plant (an unit of Steel Authority of india

Ltd;) from 1963 to1999 and retired in 1999 as Deputy General Manager in 1999. Was in

charge of a full-fledged in house Design Organization for 6 years at the time of retirement.

Bhilai Steel Plant is a large Integrated Steel Production Company having facilities right

from mining of Iron Ore to finished Steel products.

It comprises of its own captive Iron Ore mines, Coke Ovens, Blast Furnaces, BOFs,

Blooming and Billet Mills, Structural Rolling Mills, Rail Mill, & Pig Casting units.

It also has ancillary facilities viz. Sinter Plants, Refractory material Plants, Structural

fabrication shops, Foundries, Gas Cleaning and Storage facilities, Captive power

Generation units for ensuring un-interrupted power supply to production units which must

run on 24X7 basis.

Bhilai Steel Plant production capacity is 5.5 million tonnes of Crude Steel per annum.

The plant has its own Township with 50000 houses, Schools, shopping complexes and

Hospitals.

Responsibilities –

• Managing a team of 8 technological and 5 services sections consisting of 70 engineers at

various managerial levels and about 60 draftsmen engaged in preparation of design and

detailed drawings.

• - Controlled, guided and supervised different technological and services sections as the

head of the design department

• Design and drawings of steel and R.C.C. structures & foundations for expansion of various

units of the steel plant.

• Providing detailed technological specifications.

• Managed technical archives and library of about 500,000 documents,

drawings and 2000 books

• Providing the Design Schemes on urgent basis for the strengthening and rehabilitation

steel structures of the plant as and when the failures\damages took place due to various

causes.

• Providing Design Schemes Structural Modifications for the existing

Production units for enhancing production during modernization

• Led the Design teams on projects relating to mining, roads and internal railway layouts.

• Design & Detailing of Gantry Girders for heavy duty E.O.T. cranes –

capacity up to 350 Tons
