Experience

GTE/Verizon – Daily Work Flow Automation

* CPMake – Using Microstation BASIC, COM, and Visual Basic 6, Automated tasks in conjunction with GTE Engineering Control Points. Tasks automated included statistical data, file location manipulation, client-server interaction, and zip/unzip functionality for GTE ‘FieldView’ files. Frequently, this tool saved users 1-2 days average time spent on a task, for, time spent on an average task took several days. I actually created this product from home on my own time and gave it to my employer, thus getting my ‘programming’ foot in the door.

* MultiPrint – Using Microstation BASIC, created a UI to batch print/plot multiple CAD drawings, based on a particular search criteria. Typically, this saved 10 minutes to 1 hour for each set of files, which could be anywhere from 10 to 50 files.

* RenumberWP – Automate the task of renumbering Verizon work prints. This entails opening several CAD documents, and changing page/print numbers in each title block, along with renumbering file names as required. This saved users approximately 1-2 hours for this task, depending on the number of files involved; typically, 10-50 files.

GTE/Verizon

Various other tools were created, requiring BASIC, COM, Visual Basic 6, and eventually C++, to directly read/write Microstation files, using the Intergraph Standard File Format.

Experience

GTE/Verizon-Illinois and Indiana One Call Service

Maintained software created internally, which assists dispatching of engineers to the field, to locate underground Outside Plant facilities for Illinois and Indiana’s JULIE

program or One-Call program. Software uses combination of Geomedia, Geomedia Web Map, ASP Pages, Frontpage, HTML, Javascript, and CSS.

Valor/Windstream - OSPOnline

An application to display Microstation files in a web browser. This was the first of its kind back then, and gave field engineers the opportunity to view current data in the field, as opposed to waiting to get back to office and viewing the data on the desktop, saving time and resources. This application utilized Intergraph’s Geomedia, Geomedia WebMap, and FRAMME technology, along with GTE’S Field View data, consisting of Microstation files, and DBF data files, to display data in Internet Explorer or Netscape web browsers, using combination of Javascript and ASP Pages.

Valor/Windstream - Teleplexus

Migrated Verizon’s daily workflow products, IDDS and ICGS, from C to a combination of C, C++, Microsoft VB.NET, ASP.NET and Oracle 7.3. Software was migrated from an HP-Alpha server or UNIX server to Windows NT and 2000 servers. This project also included maintaining IDDS, utilizing Microstation’s MDL programming language.

Valor/Windstream - Digiserv

Developed an application coordinating data between outside plant facilities and customer service data, supporting DSL broadband services. This was basically a support system giving sales representatives the tools required to accurately determine the exact DSL service level a potential customer could acquire and support personnel to maintain said service. Software was created using a combination of ASP.NET, Microsoft Sql Server 2000, Task Manager and Batch processing.

Valor/Windstream – Synegral

Integrated a one screen WPF or XAML form into an existing WinForms Application, showing users a graphical timeline of the various stages of their progress for a particular engineering project. WPF was chosen for its ability to efficiently display graphical lines in a GUI and its ability to zoom.

STL Solutions/Growmark

While I have spent most of my time repairing and updating existing projects, I did start at least two web sites, i.e. “IMPortal” and a conversion from classic ASP to ASP.NET. “IMPortal” is a web application that relates all the data associated with materials stored in “tanks” managed by Growmark and Growmark’s “member” companies, such as gas, propane and other liquid fuels. This experience has given me current and vast knowledge of Oracle SQL and PL/SQL, along with web design, CSS, JQuery, and KnockoutJS.

Other Specialties

Diverse Programming

I am unique somewhat because I have had the distinct opportunity to write software automating several products, for several different companies, thus having ‘touched’ several different programming languages. Whereas I am not a language translator in the sense of English to Spanish, I am a translator in a sense, when it comes to programming languages.

IT Support

I am also unique in that I have also provided tech support in several aspects of the IT field. Along with all my programming duties, I have also managed tasks of a junior or senior network administrator. I am the ‘go to’ guy, for most software and hardware related issues. I play this same role at home, where I have built all my computers from scratch, ran all the wires for my home network, do tech support for my family, our friends, people around my community on the side, and have written a simple budget program using Excel and .NET, that is used by me and a couple other friends. If asked, “What is your super hero talent”, it would definitely be, ‘computers’ or ‘IT’.

Telephony

* I have a deep understanding of a ‘Network Trace’, which in programming terms, is equivalent to recursive programming, Microsoft’s Common Table Expressions (CTE), i.e., recursive tables, and Oracle’s ‘connect by prior’ statements. A ‘Network Trace’ is the process of mapping out the paths a cable takes from the central office out to the customer.

* Having programmed software related to the telephony field, I am very familiar with most GIS terms such as closest point to a line, angles, Geo-Coding addresses, map detail level and coordinate systems, just to name a few.

* Work orders, work prints, printing, plotting, batch processing, title blocks, engineering, field tech, are all terms familiar to me.

Passion

While I did attend college, I am embarrassed to say that I didn’t finish college, and don’t really have a good excuse for not finishing. That being said, I learned all I know from reading books to begin with, and then eventually, the internet, and then the experience from working with my latest employer. I have the ‘if you don’t know it, look it up’ mentality, and it has served me very well in my career.

Billiards

I am very hard to beat!
