EXPERIENCE:
Founder/CEO - Housing International, Inc.
1998-2014
I founded Housing International in 1998 after extensive research and
international travel in a search for automated housing production and
methodologies. We partnered with Morgan Stanley (New York), to construct a
Housing plant in New Orleans, Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina. We also
brought in the AFL-CIO Housing Investment Trust as a minority
Investor/Partner.
We constructed houses for temporary and emergency shelter, as well as
subdivision and mid-level housing in order to alleviate the housing crisis
in Lousiana and Mississippi, which required 250,000-300,000 homes after the
damage of Hurricane Katrina. We established a paid Pre-Apprentice program
that not only supplied skill sets to disadvantaged people, but also created
life-changing opportunities and jobs for hundreds of graduates.
Housing International, Inc. was designed to provide automated and rapid
construction methods for mass housing projects, particularly focused on
slum replacement and lower to middle income projects in the United States
and internationally in South America, Mexico, and Korea. Housing
International provided turn-key services, from planning, design,
infrastructure, complete construction, and sales/marketing of the completed
turn-key units. We obtained proprietary rights to specialized
containerized housing process that allows for worldwide shipment of
complete houses and materials in one all-inclusive package, otherwise known
as a House-In-A-Box.
My particular areas of involvement included developing new markets and new
technology, negotiating large construction/development contracts, fiscal
oversight, marketing, initiating expansion into international markets, and
promoting local job creation/training programs with all projects.
Recent focus has been on International projects, particularly in Nigeria
and other parts of Africa, as well as Haiti, Brazil, and Columbia. Our
mission has been to supply low cost shelter to the disadvantaged utilizing
technology and green materials, solar and telecommunications in remote
areas, while at the same time supplying jobs and income to thousands of
people around the world.
Original Investor/CEO - TMEX 1992-1998
I was an original investor and Chief Executive Officer of TMEX, a fully
licensed and equipped International Telecommunications and High-Speed
Internet service based on proprietary technology utilizing satellite and
laser transmission for distribution of communications. I negotiated
contracts with worldwide customers, as well as other Telecommunication
companies, to provide interconnection services between the TMEX laser/fiber-
optic systems and other carriers' networks. I traveled extensively to many
third world countries and worked with Government and relief agencies to
provide high-speed internet and telecommunications to rural areas.
Managing Partner - Lohmar, a Joint Venture with Marriott Corporation
1988-1992
Lohmar became the leading Hospitality/Healthcare linen and garment
processing provider in the USA, also offering consulting for food service,
purchasing, housekeeping, and other service areas. As Managing Partner of
the joint venture, I oversaw 5,000 employees in 12 operating plants
(cutting-edge facilities, which I directed the design, construction, and
equipment), generating income in excess of $350 Million per year. I
provided leadership, business strategies, and was closely involved with
fundraising, sales, and marketing to a broad range of clients, including
Hyatt International, Starwood Hotel Corporate, and Non-Profit Health
organizations, such as Kaiser Permanente and others across the country. I
sold my 50% interest to Marriott in 1992 and continued as a strategic
consultant for approximately 1 year.
