Liaison, Ingram and Associates, LLC, Brentwood, TN,
July 2006 - July 2008
Worked patient accounts to maximize insurance
reimbursement. After four months was interviewed by
manager from Scottsdale Health Care and was selected
to work at Scottsdale, AZ two weeks of every month. My
last stay in Scottsdale was for 5 months while I
trained 2 SHC workers to bill and collect Medicare
accident/injury claims. That project resulted in $22
million in found revenue. Scottsdale Health Care
offered to buy out my non compete contract. But
unfortunately, at that same time, I needed to take a
family leave of absence to help my mother in Mobile AL
with her husband's placement in an Alzheimer facility
in which he lasted only 2 weeks. I then helped with
settling his estate. This process took 4 months and
not the allowed 3 for FMLA and my job was no longer
available. Was prepared to move to New Orleans and
work in the TV and Film industry. But, the Good Friday
tornado in Murfreesboro brought me back to middle
Tennessee.
Team Leader, Medical Reimbursements of America,
Franklin, TN, November 2000 - June 2006
Was recruited to join team of investigators for this
start up company that specializes in accident/injury
claims and coordination of insurance benefits.
Hospitals are the largest part of their client base.
Moved up to team lead over health insurance claims due
to previous experience. Was promoted back to
investigations as team lead when the department was
producing poorly. After 3 months, I created regions
and Jr Team Leads to oversee them and doubled the
productivity and med-pay revenue. Our team met and
exceeded incentive based goals. Was then advised that
the Jr Leads could manage the department. I was
offered a substantial decrease in pay to go back to
the health department. I did not accept their offer.
Health Claims Billing Manager, Stones River Hospital,
Woodbury, TN, November 1989 - May 2000
Originally was hired and trained as an ER clerk and
unit secretary. Held that position for 3 years and
applied for a business office position for regular day
time schedule.
Worked switchboard while maintaining recurring
physical therapy charges for billing. Obtained my
telemetry and CPR certification during this time to
fill a need in the nursing department.
Worked PRN 11-7 as unit secretary and telemetry tech.
When there was an opening I applied for a billing
position that required knowledge of the BCBS and
Medicare claims systems. I learned to ke claims
directly into both. While holding that position was
able to help insure different departments were aware
of any changes in Medicare coding requirements to
help maintain a compliant charge master.
While in this position I created a training manual for
ER reps which improved the billing and collections
efforts in the business office.
Helped administrator with the marketing and sale of
the hospital to an LLC. Was offered a permanent
position as administrative assistant but only held
that for two weeks after the buyout. Then there was
reorganization of staffing. Shortly after was
recruited by a friend to work at MRA with a
substantial salary increase.
Medical Office Manager, Bryant VanBlaricum Medical
Clinic, PC, Woodbury, TN, September 1980 - April 2005
Position required coordinating staff scheduling with
leads in each department; Lab and X-ray, physician and
nursing assistants and office staff. Clinic had
weekend hours that were rotated among staff.
Records were maintained with a peg board system and
super bills and a color coded filing system for
medical records.
I maintained corporate minutes and held staff meetings
with physicians and dealt with complicated patients.
I completed an SBA loan application which was
approved to purchase equipment that allowed us to have
better diagnostic capabilities and our own fully
equipped emergency room. This was a rural clinic with
a rural hospital that did not staff physicians in
house for emergency services except from 7p to 7a.
Having the doctor and the resources at one location
resulted in more effective emergency treatment with an
improved outcome for incidents that occurred outside
the 12 hour coverage at the hospital. When I left my
position to stay home with my two year old we had just
converted accounts to a computerized system. I did not
return to work until my youngest started school.
Education Southern University, Collegedale, TN, 1970
Bachelor of Science, Mathematics, Psychology, Biology
Accomplishments & Best Actress Award, Dr Livingston, Agnes of God,
Awards Regional, 1982
Tools & Technology Currently working on Mac using IOS apps for scheduling
and maintaining contact lists and progress notes.
Previous experience involves twenty years working on
Windows based computers utilizing different hospital
accounting systems.
Have keyed hospital claims directly into BCBS and
Medicare Florida Shared systems.
Have registered patients and managed insurance claim
filing using HCA software.
Have worked with Meditech which I think is now called
Meditouch when working as unit secretary and telemetry
tech.
I can operate most office equipment including a 10 key
calculator. I have answered a multi line switchboard,
although not lately.
I am mechanically inclined and have no problem with
trouble shooting and fixing some common mechanical
problems with office equipment.
Publications Most recently I created an in-house manual for the
proper procedures necessary to file Medicare accident
injury claims. This manual allowed the company
Medical Reimbursements of America to acquire Medicare
accounts from existing clients creating a new revenue
stream for the company.
Also, I created a training manual for ER registration
clerks at Stones River Hospital in Woodbury, TN.
Having 3 years experience in the ER and moving to the
business office to file insurance claims, I discovered
time was being wasted retrieving information that
should have been obtained at the time of service by
the ER registration staff. Turn around time on
insurance claims was 45-60 days. After I restructured
and trained staff turn around time was consistently
below 30 days, including Medicare accident/injury
claims. This was in the late 90's.
Affiliations I was a member of the Child Protection Council of
Cannon County which supported the production of a
puppet show, Someone To Talk To, (about child abuse),
which my partner and I performed over the next 6 years
to all third graders in Cannon and surrounding
counties, except Rutherford. My partner and I were in
the Tennessee Touring brochure as talent that could be
obtained and paid for with Tennessee Arts Council
funds. It was part of an award winning documentary
produced by WSMV-TV in Nashville.
Chamber of Commerce: I organized and implemented the
first Leadership Cannon County with the new Chamber of
Commerce, which successfully raised funds for
subsequent classes and other Chamber projects.
I was elected to the 2000-2004 term of the Woodbury
city council but moved out of the county in 2004 to
shorten my commute and was not eligible for
re-election.
Volunteer Work I helped establish and maintain the operation and
development of Arts Center of Cannon County in
Woodbury TN for 12 years, 1980-1992. The center is an
award winning theater with gallery and permanent
Cannon County historic displays in the "museum", a
multi purpose room, which also showcases award winning
craft artists from the area. My involvement in
addition to serving on the board included, acting,
directing, set building, costume design, program
design, and gallery exhibits. When grant money
allowed for paid staff my involvement became on an "as
needed" volunteer basis.
I initiated a Creative Arts Day Camp in Cannon County
by arranging for the City of Murfreesboro program to
extend a week of their camp in Cannon County. The
local attendance demonstrated an interest in such
events. The Woodbury DARE group volunteered to manage
future camps. It is an ongoing resource to children
in the area.
I have taken many classes with the Red Cross and am on
call for any disaster that might occur. I have classes
in Liaison, Shelter Management, First Aid, and CPR to
name a few. My son was nearly killed in the Good
Friday Tornado, April 10, 2009. In Murfreesboro, TN.
His wife and child were killed. Although I had been
involved with the Red Cross prior to that disaster my
interest and involvement was stimulated again after
seeing how that organization helped the community
recover from a devastating storm that affecting
hundreds of families and businesses.
