IT led initiative which extended functionality of Qlikview business intelligence tool to include retail sales. Solution encompassed multiple POS systems (IBM ACE & NCR ACS-IR). Sales data trickles into Oracle as transaction completed at store level. Data was then extracted into Qlikview every 3 hours. Purpose of project was two fold. First to differentiate Key Food Store Co-operative Inc. from other wholesalers in the New York marketplace as that of a retail centric service provider in the eyes of our independent grocer members. Second was to base performance on actual consumer purchases rather than wholesale revenue. Performance KPIs included year over year store top level sales down to item level sales, & everything in between. Other features included sales by customer which included name, address, etc to enable direct mail, email & target marketing. Other KPIs reported were gross profit margin amount / percent by item to quickly identify top performers as well as negative / low gross margin products. Finally cashier stats were available to identify front end shrink as well as top performers. Project team was comprised of 5 resources.

Result was to partner with Broadview Networks as the primary voice and data carrier for Key Food Stores Co-operative HQ, all store locations and regional offices. In addition Key Food partnered with Sprint wireless as the backup data carrier for all sites thus providing service when land line services failed, no matter the circumstance. Store’s sole point of contact was Broadview thus simplifying the process of opening a trouble ticket. Finally the project resulted in saving stores $375,000 over the course of a 3 year contract.

Year 3 consisted of establishing a DR site for replication of data to a remote site in Philadelphia. VMWare’s SRM replicated the server cluster. EMC’s Recoverpoint replicated Oracle as well as Microsoft SQL. EMC’s Amavar product replicated backup of server based file storage. The legacy handheld had no business intelligence and the entire ordering process was labor intensive. New order system was custom written for Key Food by BRData. Software & hardware enabled ordering right at the shelf via “smart” handheld greatly reducing the labor associated with placing an order. All pertinent data needed for replenishment was displayed to user on handheld.
