ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE:
Projects for Graduate Studies
Abacus Project- Durability/ structural analysis project
FE Modeling of Micro-Indentation with Spherical Indenter
• ABAQUS finite element program is used for implementation of the project finite element
analysis of micro indentation hardness test. The effect of overall dimension of inventor
with constant load, mesh size sensitivity, sub zone effect on result reliability, co-efficient
of friction effect and the type and order of element on accuracy of simulation has been
studied.
• Component created- Sphere and Plate, Meshing Type- Transition Mesh, Simulation
Software- ABAQUS.
Fatigue life of Filled and Bare Chip flip –chip packages to understand effect of under fill
material
• Created FEA mesh on Flip chip packages to investigate whether the reliability of flip-
chip solder interconnects are affected by the manufacturing induced defects.
• Predicted the fatigue life of solder balls in completely and incompletely filled flip- chip
packages to understand the effect of under fill material using Abacus as solver.
• Software: HYPERMESH, ABAQUS.
Determination of fatigue life of the body in prime (BIP) of mid-size sedan vehicle.
• Abacus was used for linear static solution to extract the stress for unit loads in X, Y and Z
at body mounting locations like front and rear shocks, front and rear sub-frames and also
at upper and lower ;control arms to sub frame attachment points. Then the results were
scaled with the dynamic road load data in n-code Design life to predict the fatigue life of
the BIP (E-N Analysis used).
• Software Used- Abacus, abacus viewer, hyper mesh
Fem Project- Thermal Analysis and optimization of I.C engine Piston using Finite element Method
• The optimal mathematical model which includes deformation of piston crown and quality
of piston and piston skirt. In this project, Mesh is applied to whole structure and FEA
analysis is carried out. Maximum stress is observed in reduced area.
• Component created – Piston, Software - Hyper mesh, Simulation Software-
OPTISTRUCK
Linear static validation of 3D axisymmetric cylindrical solid
• In this project, cylinder and end caps are entirely modeled with MSC Nastran 3D solid
HEX8 elements. A thick walled cylinder with thick end caps is subjected to a uniform
external pressure. Determined both the radial and hoop displacement and stress state at
the mid plane of the cylinder using Nastran software
Crash/ safety project using Ls dyna
FMVSS 208: Analysis of a frontal crash between a barrier and a Taurus
• This simulation makes use of a 1995 Ford Taurus model and it was run at 25mph for
150ms in three different condition according to FMVSS 208.
• I) Full Frontal Impact II) 40% Offset III) Pole Impact
• Results obtained from the pole impact and offset are compare with full frontal crash.
• Simulation Software
used: LS DYNA
FMVSS 214(Side Impact): Pole TO VEHICLE COLLISION
• 33.5 MPH resultant
velocity impact between MDB and the vehicle. Reinforcements in the B-Pillar were modified in
order to improve the injury criteria on Side Impact Dummy to meet the FMVSS 214
requirements
Optimal Design of the S-Rail for Crashworthiness Analysis
• S-rails in vehicle structure are the main energy-absorbing components in case of frontal
collision. Ls –Dyna used to conduct analysis of the rail impact problems .Several design
parameters like the cross section width, cross section height and the curvature angle have
been proposed and used to optimize the S-rail structure
Toyota project on the human model of a 70 year old lady.
• Part of team project
on a Toyota project. Extracted the surface geometry of human body from CT scan and meshed
geometry like pelvic bone, vertebrae by using HYPERMESH. Created pelvic flesh mesh by
doing internal organ wrapping and simulation is done by LS DYNA. Component Created and
meshed- Heart, Liver, Lung, Pelvic bone
• LSDYNA software
