Recruiters,
I am an experienced patent attorney interested in prosecuting patent cases and supporting IP and business related litigations
and disputes. I am a registered patent attorney at the USPTO and have a
law license in Maryland. I also have three years of experience as an
associate attorney at a prominent IP firm in DC, Jacobson Holman. I was
prosecuting patent cases and conducting legal research and writing
memoranda and briefs on law. Please consider my experience, skills, and
qualifications for assisting your office in a Patent Attorney position.
My patent background is primarily directed towards the mechanical
arts. I studied engineering for two years at Rensselaer Polytechnic
Institute and graduated with my Bachelor's Degree in mechanical engineering
from the University of Maryland, College Park. I was placed on the Dean's
List several times at both schools.
My engineering experience includes working as a mechanical design
engineer while employed at Pulse Electronics, a manufacturing company
producing mechanical and electronic devices for the railway industry. I
designed, drafted, and revised mechanical drawings for manufacturing
processes and manufactured products, designed and constructed testing and
quality control instruments and devices, and worked with other engineers in
design and manufacturing. Pulse had its manufacturing facilities on
location, so I had hands-on experience working with manufacturing employees
during production and to directly ensure quality manufacturing processes
and products.
After studying law at the Catholic University Columbus School of Law
and obtaining my license in Maryland, I practiced at Jacobson Holman. I
conducted hundreds of patent and invention searches and interviews with
Examiners at the USPTO, and I drafted opinion letters for clients and
professionals on patentability, validity, freedom to use, infringement, and
the state of the art for patents, inventions, and products.
I was also prosecuting patent applications, writing new applications,
responding to Office Actions, amending claims and specifications, amending
original international applications to conform to US filing requirements,
and researching legal issues on patent law and procedure. I have a
thorough knowledge of the MPEP and USPTO procedures.
In regards to complex litigation, I have been conducting legal
research and legal writing, including drafting memoranda and supporting
briefs on legal issues such as federal preliminary matters, IP law, and
business related matters. I have general experience in all aspects of
supporting complex litigation and have particular experience filing Bills
of Costs and supporting briefs in federal court for several cases.
I have most recently been working in large and small e-discovery
projects using discovery and file management software.
I am interested in continuing my career in the practice of patent law
in a thriving office, and I would look forward to an opportunity to discuss
my qualifications further. Thank you for your time and thoughtful
consideration.
Best regards,
Kasen H. Jacobson
