TITLE OF THE Ph.D RESEARCH WORK

In silico, in vitro and in vivo approaches to explore ferulic acid as

an anticancer agent.

TITLE OF THE M.Phil RESEARCH WORK

Chemopreventive potential of chrysin on 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene

(DMBA) induced skin carcinogenesis in Swiss albino mice.

TITLE OF THE M.Sc RESEARCH WORK

Protective effect of berberine on immunoexpression pattern of p53 and

bcl-2 in 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene (DMBA) induced skin carcinogenesis

in Swiss albino mice

SUMMARY OF THE DOCTORAL STUDY

The anticancer potential of ferulic acid was assessed by exploring the

proapoptotic and anti-cell proliferative potential through molecular

docking with target proteins. We observed that ferulic acid interacted with

target proteins with lowest binding energy forms a stable conformation. We

also observed a well hydrophobic interaction between ferulic acid and

target proteins demonstrates an effective ligand could modulate the

expression profiles of proapoptotic and cell proliferation cascade.

In vitro anticancer potential of feulic acid was assessed by analyzing

the cytotoxic anti-cell proliferative and proapoptotic potential in Hep-2

cancer cell lines. We observed that ferulic acid significantly inhibited

the cell viability followed by series of apoptotic events such as excess

ROS generation, nuclear damage and fragmentation, apoptotic cell death. We

also observed an altered expression profiles of apoptotic and cell

proliferative related proteins in ferulic acid treated cells. The

chemopreventive potential of ferulic acid in 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene

induced hamster buccal pouch carcinogenesis was investigated molecularly by

assessing the expression pattern of apoptosis and cell proliferative

proteins. We observed a significant modulation in the protein expression

profiles of ferulic acid treated groups. Thus the present study concludes

that ferulic acid has shown a potent anticancer activity in in silico, in

vitro and in vivo methodologies.
