Supply Chain Planning Manager

Responsibilities:

• Manage team responsible for planning and buying approximately 2000 finished goods items (over $75M annually)

sourced primarily from Asia (30+ suppliers) with lead times ranging from 3 to 6 months.

• Manage inventory replenishment and distribution from 4 warehouses located across the country and in Canada.

• Issue POs and monitor delivery schedules for all inventory.

• Maintain fill rate of 95% or better while maintaining or reducing inventory levels.

• Work with sales/forecasting team to maintain and improve forecast accuracy.

• Manage initial and replenishment inventory attainment for new item introductions, roll-outs, POG changes.

• Provide management with regularly scheduled inventory valuation analysis; fill rate measurement, stock out

reporting and other KPIs.

• Regularly assess ABC ranking and safety stock levels.

• Responsible for updating and maintaining data integrity in ERP system.

• Identify and report on obsolete and slow moving inventory.

Accomplishments:

• Managed Supply Chain Planning through unique corporate acquisition (carve out) in 6 month period that increased

size by 2 times to $150M.

• Led implementation of Master Planning and was a key player in the set-up of Inventory Management, Purchasing

and Forecasting modules of new ERP System that was brought on-line in less than six months.

• Set-up Supply Chain Planning Department to manage replenishment for new acquisition. Interviewed, hired, trained

and managed Supply Chain Planning team.

• Managed companywide inventories to maximize customer service levels and delivery performance while

minimizing inventory investment and exposure to obsolescence resulting in $10M inventory reduction (33%) in one

year.

• Improved fill rates from approximately 80% to over 95%.

Spears Manufacturing is one of the largest manufacturers of PVC and CPVC pipe fittings and Thermoplastic Valves

with three major manufacturing plants and nine distribution facilities nationwide. Spears has over 1700 employees, and

extensive Injection Molding (300+ machines), Fabrication, Assembly and Machine Shop operations.

Responsibilities:

• Supply Chain Planning, issuing Purchase Requisitions and Purchase Orders for raw materials, components and

finished goods, supervising Inventory and MRO buyers, Distribution Planning, Forecasting, Capacity and

Production Planning, Scheduling, setting and maintaining Inventory Levels for Finished Goods, Components and

Raw Materials, and reporting on achievement and maintenance of desired Customer Service, Production and

Inventory Levels to upper level management.

• Planning over 100 raw materials including bulk PVC, CPVC, Polypropylene, Polyethylene, PVC and CPVC pipe,

bulk and formed metals, Polypropylene blocks, tints.

• Planning 1000-1500 purchased components including o-rings, gaskets, fasteners, gear reducers, formed metal

components.

• Planning over 50,000 different finished goods, both make to stock and make to order, consisting of valves, fittings,

nipples, insert fittings, swing joints, repair kits, fire sprinkler fittings, DWV and Lab Waste fittings, irrigation

fittings and more.

• Planned master production schedules and raw materials for three large manufacturing facilities comprising

approximately two million square feet of manufacturing space.

• Directly responsible for planning $125 - $150 million in annual overall inventory.

Accomplishments:

• Improved supplier performance by improving forecast accuracy and sharing information with suppliers. Resulted in

smoother product flow, less expediting and lower inventories.

• Part of a team that worked with IT to develop in house Purchasing Module on AS/400.

• Improved supplier accountability and delivery performance by instituting regular follow-up practices.

• Reduced stock-outs while reducing inventory by improving Forecasting and Distribution programs resulting in

higher Customer Service Levels at reduced costs. Reduced daily stock-out rates from 75-100 (some days exceeding

200) to a typical average of 15-25.

• Reduced staffing by over 75% in Production and Inventory Control departments through the development and

implementation of improved Production Planning and Inventory Distribution programs. Staffing was reduced from

seventeen planners to four.

• Developed Capacity Planning programs to accurately monitor injection molding machine, mold base, and tooling

requirements and allow “what-if” scenario analysis. This allowed for continuous growth requirements planning.

• Developed and improved existing reporting allowing top executives to track changes in key areas of sales,

production and customer service.

• Assisted in development of cycle count program which resulted in the elimination of wall to wall physical

inventories. Warehouse cycle count accuracy was typically 97.5%-98.5%.

• Part of ISO 9002 implementation and internal audit team.
