Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic / Acting Supervisor

As a heavy duty equipment mechanic my duties is Using Service manual/ hand held and lap top diagnostic

tools to troubleshoot and diagnose equipment problems. servicing and repairing road/mining maintenance

equipment such as: blast hole / exploration drill rigs or heavy earthmoving equipment such as Tamrock/Pantera

DP1500, DP1500i, Dretech D45Ks, D65, F9, pit viper PV235, Cat dozers, forklift, Trailer, Tractor, Trucks,

Loaders, Graders, Backhoe. Kumastu, light vehicles: Toyota, Chryslers, Perkins engines, Cummins engines

and other related equipment.

Undertakes the implementation of equipment maintenance systems and quality strategies in

Order to foster equipment reliability, availability and safety standards

Mentor, develop and train crew members to ensure they are competent to work in their current job positions

and where appropriate coached and prepared for the next position

Completes accurate time records, technical reports, failure reports, parts listings and submits drawing revisions

Responsibility to identify and report unsafe work habits, workplace incidents and/or near misses

Maintains orderly workshop and ensures housekeeping requirements are met

Ensures that all activities are carried out in accordance with Company values and procedure

Servicing and maintenance on equipment in relation to planned/ Preventive maintenance Change of coolant,

engine oil, hydraulic oil, differential oil, final drive oil, filters, greasing points and hydraulic fluids. Inspection

on machines chassis for cracks, leakage, loose bolts and nuts and any physical damage on the machine.

Assembly of machines which includes: installation of axle, suspension, cab, cab extension, fuel tank, steering

tank, drive shaft, walkways and connecting of hoses. Removal and replacement of excessive worn out and

malfunctioning components such as tracks, buggies, track guides, top and down rollers; remove belly guide

and check for leakages under the machine. Check for leakages on worn out seals in hydraulic cylinders, push

arms and bearings, cutting edges etc. Tests repaired equipment to ensure proper operational performance

MAJOR REPAIRS

Replacement of malfunctioning or inefficient major components such as: Power head, drifter, control valve

blocks, Screw compressors, Boom, transmission units, hydraulic cylinders, engines, hydraulic pumps,

transmission pumps, water pumps; undercarriage work – replace worn out idlers, rollers, track assembly

Overhauling of engines, torque convertors, transmission units, dismantling and assembling hydraulic cylinders,

assembling of valves, hoses. Complete undercarriage works are carried out: replacing final drives, idlers,

rollers, segments, stabilizer bars (if defective), telescopic adjustments (if defective)

Dismantling, resealing and rebuilding of hydraulic cylinders is carried out by replacing of oil seals, wiper seals,

backup seals, O-rings and check for defective pistons, replacing as necessary

-Undertakes servicing and defect of all the planned and breakdown maintenance on all the Sandvik machines

(drill rig fleet) in accordance with the company rules and regulation

-Attend to breakdowns of all kinds in the mining pit/field, including mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and

electrical problems

-Ensure that tasks are completed in a safe and efficient manner and comply with all Company policies and

regulatory laws and regulations

-Ensure that the permit to work and isolation systems are strictly adhered to by the maintenance department

-Mentor, develop and train crew members to ensure they are competent to work in their current job positions

and where appropriate coached and prepared for the next position

-Provide relevant feedback to enable maintenance planning improvements in terms of efficiency and equipment

integrity

-General maintenance including part change out such as: feed rope, worn-out centralizer jaws, defective

cylinders, checking alignments, replacing worn-out track chain and track rollers, replacing burst hydraulic

hoses, resealing valves and components. During servicing, thorough checks are done for defective parts,

greasing, replacing clogged filters, check and stop oil leakages, check hydraulic drilling pressures and make

adjustments if necessary according to basic settings

-Commissioning Sandvik machines, Rebuilding and repairing of drifter, pumps, rotation motors, Compressors,

Coolers, and Carried out engine servicing, compressor, gear box, final drive at a given periods of time during

which oils and filters are changed.

Check for leakage on worn out hydraulic cylinders, push arms and bearings, cutting edges and end bits

-Check and replace hydraulic oils and filters, transmission oil, remove belly guide and inspect for leakages

under the machine, perform electrical faults
