Senior software engineer

Hewlet-Packard - Marlboro, MA - April 2000 to December 2009

Test automated system -

• Created specs, designed and implemented n-tier application for automation testing of HP's business critical

servers and storage systems in factories. It was a team effort to overcome deficiencies of earlier test suites

developed in HP and Compaq.

• Created and implemented test cases for all the functionalities in each module.

• Provided documentation for installation and configuration of the application in HP factories for support

engineering and technicians to use.

• Was responsible for analyzing the failures encountered in factories and providing solution to the issues.

• Jointly worked with another co-worker to design and implement a web based application to view the status

of units under test. It provided option to start and stop test, view log files of the test run for debug, connect to

the unit under test and option to report hardware problems for the unit.

Skills used: Object oriented Perl, MSSQL, Linux, Apache, Javascript.

Factory View -

• Designed and implemented web based application to represent physical layout and test statistics of units

under test. It was a tool to only to VIEW the units under test and provided quick snapshot to factory operators,

managers and members in the supply chain to track hardware being tested.

Skills used - Tomcat and jsp, servlets.

Report tool -

• Designed and implemented tool to report software and hardware failures in factories. The failure information

was sent to test engineers for debugging and it also provided option to retrieve the stored data to create

hardware failure report for quality assurance.

Skills used - Perl, apache on Linux and Mysql.

Linux/System administration -

• Modified Suse Linux kernel to make it smaller and to have all essential features to test various IA64 systems.

The aim was to use the modified kernel in factories in memory to do system level testing before shipping to

the customer.

• Designed and implemented multicast client server model. The client code was included in the modified Linux

kernel so that a new virtual machine environment (using Xen) could be requested for each unit under test.

• Installed/upgraded hardware and installed Linux/Unix OS and applied appropriate patches. Made sure the

software versions were current.

Skills used - Shell scripting and Perl networking scripts.

System Test engineer -

• Was the lead system test engineer for various low to mid end Alpha servers and implemented the test plan.

• The test cases covered memory, disk, CPU, serial and parallel port, network, and PCI devices testing of

servers.

• Worked with various Compaq factories around the world to plan new product introduction and troubleshooted

the system failures encountered during testing.

Skills Used - Expect and perl on Tru64 (Unix on Compaq servers).

Test Suite for Alpha servers -

• Maintained and added new functionalities to the test suite that was used for automated integration testing

of Alpha servers in Compaq.

Skills used - Tcl/tk, perl, Unix and expect.
