Degree Conferred: July 2011
Swarthmore College, Swarthmore, PA
B.Sc. in Engineering - Concentration in Mechanical Engineering, Minor in Linguistics.
Degree Conferred: June 2006.
Professional Qualifications and Training:
NACE Coating Inspector Program Level 2, Engineer In Training (EIT), Corrosion and Corrosion Control, Protective
Coating, Cathodic Protection, Nondestructive Evaluation Techniques, Steam Generator/Heat Exchanger Operation,
Fuel and Lubricating Oil Chemistry, Welding, Emergency Diesel Generator, Nuclear Reactor Operation, Nuclear
Reactor Fuel Cycle, Nuclear Reactor Safety, Probabilistic Risk Assessment, Codes and Standards ( ASTM, NACE,
SSPC)
Relevant Projects:
Research, Design, and Application, Swarthmore College, Swarthmore, PA
Designed and constructed a solar energy system. The system consisted of thermal and photovoltaic collectors which
were subsequently integrated into a domestic hot water system. Advisor/Reference: Prof. Fred Orthlieb (Fall 2005).
Research, Design, and Construction, Swarthmore College, Swarthmore, PA
In this project, a motor and pump system was designed, constructed and analyzed. The pump efficiency, volumetric
flow, pressure across pump, and torque on motor, were major aspects of the motor -pump system that were observed
and analyzed. Advisor/Reference: Prof. Nelson Macken (Spring 2005).
WORK EXPERIENCE
Materials Engineer, Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Rockville, MD
Technical Reviewer: Evaluate technical issues related to health, safety, and environment. Focus of work items
related to materials engineering issues such as corrosion, nondestructive examination, and flaw evaluation. Activities
include licensing and program oversight activities, license renewal reviews, audit and inspections, and special tasks,
as assigned (August 2008 β Present).
Dissolution of Metal/Polymer Materials: developed NRC technical guidance on degradation and monitoring
of neutron-absorbing materials in nuclear power plant spent fuel pools and itβs monitoring;
Strong Acid Generation and Corrosion Effects: performed technical work in resolving generic issues at
nuclear power plants regarding long term core cooling during post accident scenarios;
Nuclear Plant Inspection: assisted in conducting inspections of various plant systems at nuclear power
plants.
LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE
Audit Team Technical Lead, NRC, Rockville, MD
Conducted audits of programs at over 10 nuclear power plants that include protective coating monitoring, fuel oil and
lubricating oil chemistry control, neutron-absorbing material monitoring, corrosion and corrosion control, and steam
generator aging management (Summer 2008 β Present).
President, National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), Swarthmore College
Chaired a 20-member body, representing students from various scientific backgrounds, aimed at fostering a minority
presence in the engineering field; Raised $12,000 for the organization to carry out many of the resolutions decided for
the year and for funds to go to various national conferences (Fall 20 04 β Spring 2005).
