• Managed staff of 15 software development and software quality engineers, started Technology Development Group
with 2 others and helped grow the team from 3 to 20 members
• Hired, trained, mentored, and successfully retained highly skilled software engineers
• Built up software QA group from scratch
• Responsible for $2M budget
• Accountable project lead for Dolby’s automotive program, enabling Dolby to bring discrete surround sound to the
automotive environment for the first time
o Meeting established deadlines made it possible for Dolby to land design wins with high-profile car

o Responsible for technical requirements, software design, ensuring cross-platform compatibility, portability,

Project Leadership
• Project and team lead for Dolby’s Advanced Audio Coder (AAC) project which was adopted by Apple for its
iPod and iTunes music service
• Successfully lead a team of 3 software engineers to design a complex, yet user-friendly test system for Dolby
Digital Consumer Encoder. This test system was designed for use by Dolby’s customers to verify
compatibility on multiple DSP platforms
Software Quality
• Responsible for Quality Assurance on multiple projects such as “Dolby E”, an audio coding system for the
professional broadcast market (see “Awards” section below)
• Created test plans, designed test cases, wrote test scripts, and generated test data
Software Development
• Designed and implemented a system to process and exchange metadata between Dolby E and Dolby Digital
products. Created transmission protocol and implemented system on Motorola DSP56301 platform.
• Optimized Dolby Digital Professional Encoder algorithm (MIPS and memory optimizations) on Motorola
DSP56K platform. Enabled encoder to run on 2 instead of 3 DSPs.
Continuous Improvement
• Led a company-wide cross-departmental team of software engineers in an effort to improve software
development processes at Dolby (See “Awards” section below)

• Specified, procured, and implemented software configuration management (Perforce) and bug tracking
